Position Overview

Responsible for the sales and marketing of all aggregate and FOB hot-mix materials by performing the following duties.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

The criteria for evaluation in this position include but are not limited to the following:

 

Marketing:

       

  • Comprehensive sales, marketing, and promotion of all aggregate products to towns, commercial businesses and large residential projects.
  • Follow up on all sales/quotes and collection procedures, when necessary.
  • Accurate pricing of products based on given cost factors.
  • Keeping fully abreast of the current marketing condition and the activities of competitors.
  • Developing and strengthening our relations with all customers.
  • Provide a high level of "customer service" to all clients.
  • Accurate and timely preparation of various paperwork, including estimate sheets, contracts, credit approval, billing reports, etc.
  • Assist with the collection of revenues from aggregate customers in arrears.
  • Ability to derive quantities from plans.
  • Conduct customer surveys and periodic visits to job sites

Operations:

 

  • Preparation and timely submission of weekly schedules.
  • Develop and submit bids for construction projects requiring aggregates.
  • Work closely with Quality Control in monitoring specifications of products/specifying bid items.
  • Ability to be flexible with the company and customer job scheduling for proper utilization of plants and trucks.
  • Coordination with Area Managers to maximize the use of aggregates.
  • Daily coordination with area dispatcher and/or broker to insure maximum utilization of trucks, equipment and people on an area scale.
  • Assist with other subsidiary operations as needed.
  • Adhere to any and all state and federal regulations, if applicable, as set forth by the US Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), or any other regulatory agency.

Other Requirements

 

  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Manual of Safety Practices and Procedures.
  • Strict adherence to Shelly Company policies and procedures as outlined in the Company Book of Policies.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all Shelly Company employees. Employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.
  • Proficient with Windows, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 

 

Education/Experience

Associates degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school preferred; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or a combination of education and experience. 3-5 years of experience is preferred.

 

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. 

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Computer Skills

Must have speed and accuracy using normal keyboard including the number pad. Must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word experience. Operate a 10 key with speed and accuracy. Familiarity with a purchase order system is a plus.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move more than 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
