General Summary

This position is responsible for overseeing all operations in our Austin office within the Industrial & Energy Division, which includes providing leadership, oversight, and strategic direction to ensure the delivery of short- and long-term goals.

Essential Job Accountabilities

  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of the strategic plan for industrial and energy/tech related civil construction services in the state of Texas.  That plan will be in alignment with the company strategic plans related to this sector and will promote aggressive growth of the business unit and its capabilities.
  • Prepare and communicate accurate and timely financial forecasts, budgets, and projections to allow the organization to make informed decisions, allocate resources effectively and support financial stability.
  • Be a visible model and champion for our employees to conduct themselves and our business activities consistent with our Core Values and Code of Conduct; enhancing our reputation for truthfulness and fair dealing.
  • Ensure that the company’s safety programs are implemented, and that there is zero tolerance for non-compliance with minimum safety standards set by the Company leadership working to create an environment with the ultimate goal of “ZERO” accidents.
  • Promote change and the Pursuit of Excellence in Texas. Build a high performing team and a culture that strives to lead the industry in technological and process improvement.
  • Actively participate in bid reviews for all bids to ensure estimate accuracy, risk and opportunity assessment, and strength and weakness analysis is consistent with overall company expectations.  Understand productions, crews, and self-performed civil work. 
  • Lead an engaged team including setting goals, managing performance, fostering career development and promoting a collaborative learning environment.
  • Champion growth initiatives in the area (specifically civil in Mission Critical, energy and industrial markets such as Rail), including pro-forma and market analysis for acquisitions. Ensure that acquisition opportunities are consistent with the strategic plan and meet company goals.
  • Develop strategic and professional relationships; work to build alliances within the Division and Granite as a whole, and also with customers, vendors and subcontractors to ensure the company is a well-respected leader in Texas.
  • Ensure that the Company’s equipment standards and policies are being met including equipment leadership in regular inspection of equipment resources.

Education

  • BS degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent work experience in heavy civil or highway or construction and management.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of twelve (12) years’ experience heavy civil infrastructure industry, with a strong preference for extensive knowledge in the e-infrastructure space, including, but not limited to: data center sitework (earthwork, underground utilities, roads, etc.), site civil and foundations for power generation, civil work in the rail sector, and/or civil work and foundations in oil & gas. 

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Knowledge of construction operations (technology, equipment, methods), company policies, procedures and standards.
  • Knowledge of craft employee relations and all employee related laws and regulations.
  • Experience in estimating of earthwork, underground utilities, concrete foundations, aggregate base, asphalt paving and small concrete structures.
  • The ability to lead a greenfield business.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, supervisory, and planning skills required.
  • Proficiency with all MS Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.
  • Excellent organizational, supervisory, and decision making/problem solving skills are essential.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to effectively disseminate information.
  • Strong desire to grow a career at Granite in a position expected to grow in responsibility.

Physical Demands

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to operate a computer keyboard. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. At times will be working around large construction equipment, must be safety conscience.

Base Salary Range: 

$176,157.00 - $264,236.00

Pay may vary based upon relevant experience, skills, location, and education among other factors.
