OMNI Engineering, a CRH company, started its business in 1985 in Omaha, Nebraska. OMNI is involved in heavy highway construction as well as private and commercial site construction. Its primary business involves the manufacture and placement of asphalt for roads, city streets and parking lots. Currently, OMNI Engineering employs around 200 employees and remains a competitive force in the Omaha market.
Position Overview
The Asphalt Plant Operator is responsible for the daily operations of the plant to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality output. The plant operator is responsible for maintaining production schedules, providing excellent customer service and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Planning and coordination of daily job orders, order scheduling, raw material inventory, and ordering, plant maintenance, etc.
- Maintenance activities include but not limited to welding, torching, machine lubrication, plant-specific component maintenance, etc. Performs basic maintenance and service on plant as required.
- Participate in creating a safe work environment, achieve safety goals, implement company safety programs, and comply with OSHA/MSHA/Company safety standards.
- Operate plant controls to produce hot-mix asphalt according to specifications. Monitor material operation to ensure quality of mix.
- Oversee truck scales and the loading of the trucks.
- Responsible for computer-based entry of production data, mix design details, product orders, and related communications.
- Track and order supplies and inventory for plant.; use computer and software system for ticketing and two-way radio for communications.
- Assist with general plant housekeeping and upkeep. Help facilitate the cleanliness of the control house and yard facility daily.
- Properly follow all company policies and procedures for safe working procedures and environment. Report any problems to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
- One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in the operation of asphalt facilities or other directly related industry experience preferred.
Work Requirements
- Must be 18 years in age or older.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
- Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license and meet the company MVR requirements.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee and Safety Policy Manuals/Handbooks.
- Regular, on-time and consistent attendance is required and must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
- Must be willing to travel to other locations occasionally within the workday.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to cope well in stressful environments and communicate professionally.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently under a variety of working conditions.
- Ability to read and comprehend policies, instructions, site maps, city street maps and other GPS based equipment information.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as being able to work independently with attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate, understand and follow in both verbal and written instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to take guidance and direction from a supervisor.

- Able to communicate with others by email, telephone and in person.
- Able to utilize a computer for word processing, email communication, and preparation of documents and presentations.
- Able to regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to frequently talk, hear, walk, reach use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, and sit as well as occasionally required to stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel and crouch.
- Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Able to climb ladders, inclined walkways, access elevated platforms and to work at heights as well as work in tight quarters.
- May require sitting for extended periods of time.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. A variety of noise levels, adverse weather conditions, and complex job sites are to be expected daily. Proper clothing, PPE (personal protective equipment), and safety precautions should be taken to ensure your safety, and the safety of others in all conditions.
