POSITION: BOOKKEEPER/COMPUTER OPERATOR I

Classification: Classified/Support Staff/Unlicensed

Terms of Employment: Full Time – 209 Days

FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT

Location: Central Office

 

This is a Classified position assigned to the Classified Non-Union Salary Schedule.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, performs specialized clerical duties including organizing and maintaining records and accounts related to the administration of diverse programs and operations. Ensure the efficient operation of the office so that the maximum contribution to the success of the students and the staff of the District is possible.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Become familiar with the District’s financial software.
  2. Processes records such as personnel requisitions, payrolls, travel, etc.
  3. Assists with the maintenance of budget and maintains record of expenditures.
  4. Posts information to records or files.
  5. Records information on standard Elko County School District forms.
  6. Answers or asks questions of callers and visitors by phone or in person.
  7. Files and sorts correspondence, memos, and reports.
  8. Operates various office business machines.
  9. May perform media center, library, switchboard, or graphics responsibilities.
  10. Conforms to safety standards as prescribed.
  11. Performs other tasks related to the position as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Training, and Experience:

  1. High school graduation or other equivalent (i.e., GED, college, technical or trade school, foreign equivalency, etc.).
  2. Two (2) years of post-secondary training or graduation from a recognized school of secretrial skills and three (3) years successful job experience, or five (5) years successful employment in a similar position.
  3. Proficiency of 60 wpm typing.
  4. Proficiency on computers; in particular in using word processing and spreadsheets.

  1. Possess physical and mental stamina commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.
  2. Possess personal characteristics, including but not limited to poise, perspective, integrity, flexibility, and personal appearance necessary for success in The Elko County School District.

Elko County School District facilities, schools, departments, and auxiliary sites.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Strength:

  • Sedentary/Medium - Exert force to 50 lbs., occasionally; 10-25 lbs., frequently; up to 10 lbs., constantly; or a negligible amount of force to frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities.
  • Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.

Vision:

  • Frequent near acuity; occasional far acuity. Vision to read printed materials, a VDT screen, and other monitoring devices.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Climate-controlled office setting and outdoor temperatures ranging from mild to extreme cold/heat. Exposure to noise levels ranging from moderate to loud for occasional to frequent time periods.

Hazards:

  • Furniture, playground/office equipment, communicable diseases, chemicals and fumes (as related to specific assignment), and power/hand-operated equipment and machinery (as related to specific assignment).

Various computers, printers, telephones, calculators, copy machines, fax machines, filing cabinets/equipment, etc.
