About the role, Your Impact

Baxter & Woodman is seeking a Construction Coordinator/Engineer for our Houston office in Texas. In this position, you will work under close and immediate supervision of the Construction Department Manager. This position will gain the experience through field observation and construction project management necessary for future positions in the Construction Department. You will rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. This position requires elementary design knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures utilizing construction engineering fundamentals.

What your day-to-day will look like, what you will learn on the job

  • Coordinates with inspectors for on-site observation of work, repairs, and test as needed.
  • Monitors progress schedule and shop drawing log.
  • Reads and interprets applicable plans, specifications, schematics, blueprints, and maps.
  • Assists in providing general civil engineering, transportation, and municipal client service.
  • Effective communication, both oral and written, with contractors, residents, businesses, and public agency representative.
  • Assists Construction Manager in resolving construction conflicts and prepare cost-effective solutions.
  • Assists Construction Manager in reviewing pay requests and verify work completed.
  • Endeavor to provide protection for owner against defects and deficiencies in the work.
  • Serve as liaison with contractor, working principally through contractor�s superintendent.
  • Assist in maintaining job site records of Daily Reports, job meeting minutes, approved shop drawing submittals, and pay requests.
  • Maintain records of time, equipment, and material needs for any changes in the work that may result in a change order. Review and request adjustments of compensation and/or contract time.
  • Observing, measuring and documenting construction activities.
  • Maintaining a daily log of construction activities.
  • Assists Construction Manager in preparing payment estimates.
  • Addressing resident complaints and concerns.
  • Attends various meetings to provide status updates, prepares reports and meeting minutes.
  • Identifies problem areas and recommends resolutions to Construction Manager
  • Serves as the Construction Engineer or Construction Manager�s liaison when coordinating construction activities with contractors and construction management team.
  • Can communicate information from field staff to Construction Manager for resolution of construction conflicts or issues that may arise.
  • Reports issues to the Construction Manager
  • Other duties as needed or assigned.

Education Requirement

  • Associate or bachelor�s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering and may have Engineer-in-Training (EIT) registration.

Must-haves, what you will bring

  • 2 or more years� experience in construction.
  • Ability to read, interpret plans, specifications, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to travel throughout Baxter & Woodman�s service area (own transportation).
  • Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.
  • Strong MS Office experience, including Excel.
  • Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Compensation The pay range for this role is $73,000 - $93,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
