BACKGROUND CHECK

PROBATION

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory 6-month probation.

ELIGIBILITY

Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

EDUCATION ACCREDITATION

Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.

CLASS DESCRIPTION

A Construction Electrical Inspector I conducts on-site inspections of electrical installations in new construction or renovation projects for contract and specification compliance. Work involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.

Incumbents in this class receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek, but may be required to work evening, weekend and holiday hours on a 24-hour on-call basis. Work is performed at construction sites where incumbents may encounter dust, mud, noise, heights and inclement weather conditions. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

SELECTION PROCESS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

EDUCATION: Have a high school diploma or a GED certification from an accredited institution.

                                                                   

AND
 

EXPERIENCE: Have three (3) years' experience in electrical installation, maintenance or inspection work.

OR

EQUIVALENCY (NOTES): Have an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES:

Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or equivalent and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit. PROVISIONAL DRIVER’S LICENSE ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. YOU MUST UPLOAD A COPY OF YOUR VALID DRIVER’S LICENSE WITH APPLICATION AT TIME OF APPLYING.

APPLICANTS FOR THIS CLASSIFICATION MUST:

1) Hold a state license or local license as a master electrician; or

2) Have previously held, within last five years, a state license or local license as a master electrician that was not suspended or revoked; or

3) Be certified by:

i. The International Code Council as a Combination Inspector or as an Electrical Inspector for Residential or Commercial Buildings; or

ii. The North American Board of Certified Practitioners; or

iii. A certifying entity that is comparable to those listed above.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of construction and electrical installation methods, materials and techniques.

  • Knowledge of national and other codes and standards.

  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures including OSHA rules and regulations.

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.

  • Mathematical ability.

  • Ability to communicate and deal effectively with others.

  • Ability to maintain records and write reports.

EXAMINATION PROCESS
