Position Summary
The Estimator plays a critical role in identifying and prioritizing quality bidding opportunities, analyzing plans and specifications, and producing accurate, strategic cost estimates for site development, underground utilities, and roadway projects. This role requires a detail-driven, analytical, and collaborative individual with a deep understanding of civil construction and a commitment to Petticoat-Schmitt's values.
Essential Job Functions:
- Responsible for all aspects of producing a quality estimate including clearly defined cost, risk, and price in conjunction with bid documents.
- Participate in all aspects of estimating including pre-construction activities and producing public or private bid estimates and pricing.
- Identify quality bidding opportunities and assist in setting bidding priorities through analysis of RFPs and market research.
- Review project drawings, documents, and specifications to determine project scope, conditions, and production levels/rates.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and visit project locations as needed.
- Prepare quantity takeoffs and solicit all required vendors.
- Define anticipated project durations.
- Analyze geotechnical data and incorporate into estimate.
- Identify general conditions, labor, equipment, and material requirements and costs.
- Present estimate for final review with detailed project approach narrative.
- Value Engineering, where appropriate.
- Produce and manage an effective schedule of pre-construction milestones to allow for timely final bid review, proposal form completion and bid delivery.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable industry standards and best practices, as well as requirements for public and private clients in our areas of operation.
- Analyze associated cost history and incorporate as needed.
- Work collaboratively with project managers, superintendents, owners, or other employees regarding construction methods, productivity, job requirements, change orders, etc.
- Coordinate with administrative staff to prepare documentation and verify accuracy before send to appropriate parties.
- Train, lead, and mentor department junior staff, including Agtek operator.
- Updating software material, labor, equipment, and Worker�s Comp rates in conjunction with other departments and/or vendors.
- Serve as an ambassador of the company and provide positive client relations to foster future business as well as maintain the company and industry image.

Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you will need�
- Minimum 3 years of experience estimating civil construction projects, including site development, underground utilities (storm, water, sewer), and roadway construction
- Proven experience in public and private bid production with strong understanding of cost drivers and risk
- Advanced knowledge of civil construction principles, procedures, and means/methods
- Strong math skills, including proficiency in algebra and geometry for quantity calculations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Teams, Project, OneNote)
- Experience with estimating software such as HCSS, Bid2Win, BlueBeam, PlanSwift, Primavera P6, Procore
- Skilled in reading and analyzing civil designs, geotechnical data, and bid documents
- Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills
- Ability to mentor junior staff and contribute to team development
- Familiarity with Florida DOT or regional bidding practices (preferred)
- Ability to lead pre-bid efforts, attend site visits, and present estimates with confidence

Compensation for this opportunity:
- $90,000 to $130,000 base salary, depending on qualifications and experience.
