The Construction Inspection Supervisor is a vital leadership role responsible for overseeing construction inspection activities that support the City of Cedar Rapids' infrastructure investments. About this Opportunity  

Supervises construction inspection activities; provides technical guidance in inspection duties.


 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assign work on projects to balance workloads, use team strengths, and stay efficient
  • Supervises and reviews the work of assigned staff; provides technical guidance for inspections in accordance with local, state and federal guidelines.
  • Investigates and resolves complaints from contractors and the public; researches and responds to public inquiries
  • Assists with budgeting equipment, equipment maintenance, and training needs; supply tools and materials needed for team to perform duties
  • Provide guidance and inspection for other departments as needed for emergency contracts
  • Provides construction status updates through daily check-in meetings.
     Ensure proper inspection coverage on all projects and manage overtime approvals
  • Meets with stakeholders in the field for project scoping and plan reviews; provide meaningful construction feedback in regard to constructability, notes and staging.
  • Conduct weekly toolbox talks and ensure staff are complaint with safety requirements
  • Conduct 4-year reviews of projects for maintenance bonds
  • Performs related work as required

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalency and
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in construction management, construction inspection, or construction coordination or
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a supervisory role or
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License 
  • Iowa DOT Erosion Control Basics within 6 months
  • ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor within 6 months

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous supervisory experience

Work Schedule

  • Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm
