Requirements


MOS Codes: 12H (Army), 3E251 (Air Force), 1301 (Marine Corps), B00A (Navy)

Education and Experience:  Completion of 30 hours of college credits in Engineering, Drafting Technology or a closely related physical science field and two (2) years of construction or engineering related experience, or a High School diploma or GED, and four (4) years of construction or engineering related experience.
 
Licenses and Certificates: Some positions may require International Code Council Commercial Building Inspector Certification within in three (3) months of date of appointment.  Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state.

General Purpose

Under general supervision, conduct site inspections of all Commercial, Residential or municipal infrastructure construction projects. Enforce compliance with construction documents, plans and specifications, ordinances & regulations.

Typical Duties

Oversees and is responsible for the inspection of municipal construction projects. Interpret plans and specifications for work being done under contract. Prepares technical records and reports. Maintain applicable database, records and files. Upon assignment, research prior inspections for approvals or disapprovals to determine current status.  Attend training and meetings. Testify in court and before City boards and Commissions, as required.
 
May be required to coordinate with contractor, consultant, and other City departments to insure all appropriate permits for construction projects have been obtained. Coordinates with contractor, consultant, utilities, and other City departments to resolve issues and minimize delays to construction projects.
