Position Summary
Performs independent and continuous on-site construction project inspections on multiple simultaneous projects for all new construction, repair, and rehabilitation projects. Reads and interprets complex construction and contract documents. Carefully observes and reports on the work of the General Construction Contractor and its subcontractors to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Construction Contract.
Job Responsibilities
Independently inspects the construction of all new facilities and rehabilitation projects for the NTMWD for the purpose of determining that such facilities are completed in accordance with all contract documents and work is within District easements.
Advises the Inspection Supervisor when the work performed is not per contract documents, when corrective action is not implemented by the Contractor and about critical construction activities that deviate from the drawings and specifications.
Generates an accurate and detailed daily report of all activities, weather conditions, quantities of work, etc.
Verifies the quantity of work accomplished and stored materials submitted on each monthly estimate.
Ensures that materials and equipment installed conform to approved submittals.
Is available to the Contractor during all working hours for the purpose of resolving questions and issues that may arise concerning the construction.
Ensures that construction activities are confined to District easements and that special conditions of easement grants are fulfilled.
Witnesses testing of newly installed material and equipment as per the project documents and manufacturer recommendations.
Performs detailed inspections and reports of shut-downs, equipment testing, and material testing.
Verifies that the contractor is adhering to their safety plan and OSHA.
Mentors and trains Inspector I’s.
This position may require working weekends and off-hours depending on the project.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education Experience:
Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
Requires five (5) years of construction inspection experience
Driving a District vehicle for NTMWD business will be required. Must maintain a current, valid, and vehicle - appropriate driver' s license of resident state.
APWA CPII Certification and/or IBC/ICC Certification preferred, or must be willing to complete necessary requirements to become certified.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to read and interpret complex drawings and specifications.
Must have knowledge and ability to read and understand Right-of-Way and Easement Drawings.
Must be able to effectively communicate in person, by telephone and email.
Must be able to effectively work in minimally supervised and/or unsupervised environments.
Must be able to perform mathematical calculations, scale distances from plans, and measure distances on the ground.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat, & Construction Management Software.
Must be able to communicate well with NTMWD team members and all personnel associated with assigned projects.
Must have the ability to work independently and possess an aptitude for detail.
Environmental and Physical Working Conditions
Work conditions vary from indoor to outdoor activities. Outdoor activities may involve exposure to unfavorable worksite conditions including but not limited to heat, cold, dust, dirt, noise, heights and uneven walking surfaces. May be required to office out of the company vehicle. Activities may require sitting, standing, walking, bending, crawling, climbing, kneeling, balancing, pushing, pulling, carrying, dragging up to 75 pounds of equipment. Equipment used includes surveyor’s transit, level, steel tape, and camera. Work may vary depending on information requests.
