Job Summary

The Director of Construction & Contractor Management will establish and maintain standards for oversight of contractors performing rail infrastructure construction, maintenance, or replacement, including engineering emergency response work. This role focuses on expanding service offerings, driving contractor accountability, and managing key accounts in the freight rail, short line, and industrial sectors.  This role is responsible for oversight of projects/programs where RailPros is hiring the contractor directly to execute work for our clients, or where the contractor is performing work directly for a client who has engaged RailPros to manage the project.

  • Develop and execute strategic plans to grow the construction management and contractor management service line in the freight rail sector.
  • Secure and manage projects with major clients (e.g., National industrial clients, Class I railroads).
  • Establish the parameters to which RailPros will hold accountable the contractors we hire to complete work for our clients.
  • Establish standardized safety and documentation protocols to ensure compliance and operational excellence.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and liaison between executive leadership and client stakeholders.
  • Drive technological innovation.
  • Represent the company in industry forums and deliver professional education programs.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Proven ability to grow practices and lead multi-office teams.
  • Expertise in construction engineering and management, rail infrastructure, and emergency response.
  • Strong client relationship management and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computers and email and other software commonly employed to develop presentations and promotional materials.
  • Proven ability to exercise discretion in the handling of sensitive and/or confidential materials and information.
  • Strong skills in presenting and delivering new concepts and methods.
  • Demonstrated success in strategic leadership and client services.

 

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business, or related field or 12+ years of experience in rail industry – preference to field operations.

 

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Professional Engineer (Civil) licensure.
  • Active involvement in AREMA, including committee membership.
