S&ME is seeking a driven and enthusiastic Field Supervisor to join our Construction Services team in Nashville, Tennessee. Join us at S&ME!


As a Field Supervisor, you will lead a skilled group of construction materials testing professionals while directing day-to-day operations across a variety of active project sites. You'll play an essential role in delivering high-quality testing and inspection services, strengthening client partnerships, and driving overall operational performance. This role combines team leadership with hands-on project involvement, requiring a strong focus on quality control, safety, scheduling, and efficiency. Your ability to coordinate with clients, oversee multiple projects simultaneously, and maintain exceptional safety practices will be critical to the success of both the team and the projects you support.


Your Day-to-Day:

  • Team Leadership & Scheduling: Direct and support field personnel by coordinating daily assignments, managing staffing needs, and working closely with clients and contractors to organize project schedules and site activities.
  • Project Coordination: Collaborate regularly with Service Line Managers and Project Managers to monitor project timelines, staffing requirements, and the status of ongoing and upcoming work.
  • Staff Development & Certifications: Provide training and mentorship for field testing and inspection procedures, encourage professional certification growth, and track employee certification records and compliance requirements.
  • Safety Leadership: Promote a strong safety culture by leading field safety initiatives, facilitating routine safety meetings, and reinforcing proper PPE usage and adherence to established safety procedures.
  • Equipment Management & Quality Support: Verify that field teams are equipped with the necessary testing tools and resources, assist with equipment upkeep and calibration activities, and support overall quality assurance efforts within the department.

What You Bring:

  • High School diploma or GED
    • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical engineering or a construction-related field is a plus
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction materials testing/inspecting of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt
    • Experience in a supervisory or management role
  • Active Construction Materials industry certifications such as: American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician and/or International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils), a plus
  • Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment, such as:

  • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
  • Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially long periods
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
