Applications are being accepted for the position of Construction Project Manager.  The project manager oversees facilities projects, including remodeling and restoration, with a focus on historic structures. Responsibilities include project planning, budgeting, scheduling, team leadership, vendor management, and risk mitigation. The ideal candidate has a bachelor's degree, three years of related experience, strong organizational and communication skills, and a valid driver's license.  The position is scheduled for 20 - 30 hours per week. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Project Planning and Coordination:
    • Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
    • Coordinate with internal stakeholders (faculty, staff) and external vendors to ensure project requirements are met.
  2. Project Execution and Oversight:
    • Oversee the execution of remodeling and restoration projects; the primary project for this position is the restoration of the historic King Chapel on Cornell’s campus.
    • Monitor project progress and ensure adherence to schedules and budgets.
    • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  3. Budget Management:
    • Prepare and manage project budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
    • Track project expenses and provide regular financial reports to the Vice President of Business and Enterprise Services.
  4. Team Leadership and Communication:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact between the Vice President for Business and Enterprise Services, Facilities Operations Manager, and external vendors.
    • Communicate project updates and status reports to stakeholders.
  5. Vendor and Contractor Management:
    • Work collaboratively with architects, engineers, construction manager and other related third parties for King Chapel restoration project.
    • Select and manage relationships with suppliers, vendors, and contractors as needed.
  6. Risk Management:
    • Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, particularly those related to historic preservation, and FEMA.
  7. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Serve as primary contact for FEMA, State Historic Preservation Organization and other regulatory bodies as it relates to the restoration of King Chapel.
    • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including plans, reports, and correspondence.
    • Provide detailed project reports to the Vice President for Business and Enterprise Services and other stakeholders as required.
  8. Technical Skills and Physical Requirements:
    • Perform physical inspections of buildings, grounds, and equipment as needed.

Requirements

Education

Bachelor's degree and at least three years of related experience preferred, equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.

Skills

  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to perform and manage technically complex projects using independent judgment and personal initiative.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and Google Drive.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate professionally with internal and external customers.

Physical Requirements

    • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job, including walking, bending, driving, and some lifting up to 30 pounds.
    • Visual inspection of buildings, grounds, and equipment.

    Work Location & Conditions

    The position works on campus in person. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors at various campus sites with exposure to weather elements. Nights and weekends may be required depending on project needs. All requirements are subject to change over time, with possible modifications made to reasonably accommodate individuals with a disability.

The hiring pay range for the position is $30-$35 per hour.  The position is scheduled for a 2-year term with the option to extend.
