Position Overview:
The Site Superintendent is responsible for overseeing daily field operations, ensuring that energy construction projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with quality standards. This role involves managing site personnel, coordinating with subcontractors, enforcing safety regulations, and ensuring smooth execution of project plans.
Key Responsibilities
1. On-Site Project Management
- Oversee daily construction activities, ensuring work is performed according to plans, specifications, and safety standards.
- Coordinate and manage site crews, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure efficient workflow.
- Act as the primary on-site point of contact for project managers, engineers, and clients.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with contractual obligations, scope, and project requirements.
2. Safety and Compliance
- Implement and enforce company safety policies and OSHA regulations to ensure a safe work environment.
- Conduct daily safety briefings, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses (JHAs).
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), fall protection, and site safety protocols.
- Investigate and report any safety incidents or near-misses and implement corrective actions.
3. Scheduling and Coordination
- Work closely with project managers and planners to develop and maintain construction schedules.
- Ensure timely delivery of materials, equipment, and manpower to keep the project on track.
- Identify potential delays or disruptions and implement mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate with utility companies, inspectors, and regulatory agencies to ensure
seamless project execution.
4. Quality Control and Inspections
- Conduct on-site inspections to ensure work meets engineering specifications and industry standards.
- Identify and resolve construction defects, rework issues, and material discrepancies.
- Maintain quality assurance documentation and ensure all necessary testing and inspections are completed.
- Collaborate with QA/QC teams to enforce compliance with project specifications and standards.
5. Labor and Workforce Management
- Supervise crew members, foremen, and subcontractors, ensuring optimal performance.
- Provide training, mentorship, and leadership to field personnel.
- Address workforce issues, including scheduling, productivity, and discipline.
- Ensure proper allocation of skilled labor, equipment, and tools.
6. Communication and Reporting
- Provide daily progress reports to project managers and senior leadership.
- Document and communicate site challenges, changes, and unforeseen conditions.
- Attend site meetings with stakeholders, addressing project updates and concerns.
- Ensure that change orders, RFIs (Requests for Information), and work modifications are properly documented.
7. Equipment and Resource Management
- Oversee equipment usage, maintenance, and allocation on-site.
- Ensure all tools and machinery are in working condition and comply with safety standards.
- Manage material inventory and deliveries, ensuring proper storage and handling.
What You Bring (Your Skills & Experience)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in solar or renewable energy construction.
- Strong knowledge of construction management software and industry best practices.
- Strategic thinker with a tactical mindset. You can see the big picture and also execute the details.
- Results-driven. You measure success in revenue, not activity.
- Strong communicator and team player. Sales and marketing must be aligned, and you'll play a key role in making that happen
- Thick-skinned and relentless. If you need a lot of hand-holding or get discouraged easily, this isn't the right fit.
