Directional Drill Operator
Glass Roots Construction (GRC) is a brand-new team but was founded by a team of well-funded career telecom and construction professionals. We look to leverage the latest technologies, best-in-industry equipment, and up-to-date construction and safety practices to build a first-class fiber optic utility construction firm in multiple markets throughout the US.
We need skilled Directional Drill Operators who are local to the area. This position will report to the Market Manager and represents an opportunity to join an awesome team on the ground floor, learn a lot, and have a ton of fun as GRC grows!
As a Directional Drill Operator, you will play a key role in underground utility construction projects. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Role and Responsibilities:
- Operating directional drill rigs and related heavy equipment safely and effectively.
- Operating a variety of equipment, including but not limited to: Directional Drill, Backhoe/Excavator, Skid Steer, Tractor Trailer (Moving Equipment/Haul Water), and Vacuum Truck/Trailer.
- Developing and maintaining a bore schedule.
- Identifying rock and soil conditions, selecting proper tooling/equipment, and managing crews effectively.
- Reading utility locates and coordinating daylighting of facilities.
- Completing site set-up and clean-up, including safety perimeter (signage, cones, barriers, and traffic flagging if required).
- Restoring/landscaping disturbed areas of job sites.
- Loading/unloading tools, materials, and equipment.
- Participating in Job Safety Analysis (JSA) meetings prior to construction.
- Working overtime, after hours, weekends, and being on-call for emergencies as needed to meet project deadlines.
Qualifications & Experience
- 2+ years of drilling experience required; 4+ years preferred.
- Must have experience in various ground/rock conditions, with Air Hammers, Mud Motors, and dual rod/AT drills.
- Strong knowledge of FTTH/FTTX construction is preferred.
- Ability to follow instructions and maintain safe work practices.
- Falcon F5 locating experience a plus.
- Valid Driverβs License required.
- CDL (Class A) is strongly preferred; candidates with CDL will be given priority.

- Willingness to travel and stay in market for extended periods.
- Travel expectations - 100% if out of town, 25% if in town
Schedule:
- Β 8-hour shift
- 10-hour shift
- 12-hour shift
- Day shift - Monday to FridayΒ
- Night shift - Sunday to Thursday
- On call
- Overtime
- Weekend availability
- Travel is required to stay local to NV, but we will move around the state. Some out-of-state work may take place.
