SUMMARY: Under the direction of the City Engineer, provides technical and paraprofessional engineering services; performs drafting, office, and field engineering work; conducts surveys; performs construction inspections as assigned; prepares and maintains engineering and utility maps; and assists in planning, designing, and maintaining public infrastructure.
DRAFTING AND PARAPROFESSIONAL ENGINEERING:
Performs drafting and design work on computer aided drafting software and other related computer design equipment. Prepares and/or reduces field notes for application to drafting assignments. Assists in planning, designing, and maintaining public infrastructure. Conducts land ownership research. Measures and prepares descriptions of real property.
SURVEYING AND FIELD ENGINEERING:
Operates global positioning system (GPS) equipment to perform a variety of simple or complex field surveys and infrastructure inventory; operate transit and level, or other surveying equipment, in a variety of field survey work. Performs as-constructed surveys or field observations for public improvement projects and utility projects.
ENGINEERING AND UTILITY MAPPING:
Prepares and maintains city utility maps on computer aided drafting software or geographic information system (GIS) software; updates utility maps and keeps reference systems current. Prepares, files, and retrieves a variety of engineering maps, documents and records; updates files and engineering maps and keeps reference systems current. Digitizes files and engineering maps. Updates drawings and maps to reflect data and information received from as-constructed surveys.
INSPECTION AND REPORTING:
Performs inspections and prepares reports for public works improvements and other public works structures or facilities as assigned to ensure compliance on city projects, subdivisions, and encroachments.
INTERDEPARTMENTAL COOPERATION AND OTHER DUTIES:
Under the direction of the City Engineer, assists other city departments to prepare maps, drawings, descriptions, or other technical services that are determined necessary, which may include field inspections. Responds to emergency calls and stand on-call when necessary. Assumes other duties as assigned.
