Your Role.

The Bear Creek School is currently seeking to add a member to our Fine Arts team to support the Jazz Band program. The Jazz Band instructor has the unique opportunity to work with students in a dynamic, collaborative environment, using music education to cultivate skill, creativity, and character. Instruction is thoughtfully planned to develop musicianship, foster teamwork, and inspire a love of performance while supporting students in reaching program and learning goals. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach Upper School jazz band classes with a focus on jazz style, technique, improvisation, rhythm, and ensemble performance
  • Develop and implement an engaging and age-appropriate jazz curriculum aligned with student skill levels and program goals
  • Rehearse ensembles in preparation for concerts, performances, festivals, or school events
  • Teach core jazz concepts, including swing feel, blues forms, chord progression, scales, and stylistic interpretation
  • Support student growth in musical literacy, listening skills, and performance confidence
  • Collaborate with the full-time Band Teacher to ensure alignment, continuity, and support within the overall band program
  • Maintain a positive, structured rehearsal environment that encourages responsibility, teamwork and respect
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with students, parents, and colleagues regarding expectations and progress
  • Follow through on routine job responsibilities including grading, record keeping, attendance, and lesson planning
  • Attend performances and events directly related to the jazz program

  • Participate in relevant meetings or professional development as appropriate

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required, a degree in Music Education, or a related field, preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience in jazz performance and instruction preferred
  • Ability to teach and scaffold jazz concepts for high school-aged students required
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Familiarity or experience with classical Christian education preferred
  • Currently held CPR/AED/First Aid Certification (with Epinephrine Auto Injector supplement included), or arrangements made to obtain certification within 90 days of employment start date
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer. No sponsorship is available for this position

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times.  
  • Work in a traditional climate-controlled office environment with occasional visits between campus buildings, requiring exposure throughout the day to the outside elements.
  • Must be able to traverse classroom and adjust one’s tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child.

Salary Description
$5,000 Stipend
