Position Title: Journeyman Carpenter (JCP)
Department: Operations
Reports To: Project Superintendent
Location: Jobsite
Position Summary:
The Journeyman Carpenter (JCP) is responsible for the daily jobsite execution and management of self-perform work on construction projects. This role ensures that all self-perform work is performed in accordance with design specifications, project schedules, and safety regulations. The Journeyman Carpenter may also serve as a field manager, coordinating subcontractors, suppliers, and other field personnel to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality project execution.
Position Responsibilities and Duties

Skill Sets
  • Hands on experience and knowledge in commercial rough and finish carpentry; desire residential experience as well.
  • Demonstrate safe work habits and knowledge of safety rules and instructions while performing job functions.
  • Experience and knowledge with working with hand tools and equipment as required to complete duties.
Duties
  • The scope of work duties may include, but not limited too:
    • Clean-up
    • Load and Unload Materials
    • Demolition
    • Dig Holes or Minor Grading
    • Minor Concrete
    • Temp enclosures and Protection
    • Rough carpentry and framing
    • Finish Carpentry
    • Door, Frames, and Hardware
    • Minor Painting
    • Kitchen and Bathroom Accessories and Partitions
    • Operate Equipment such as skid loader, forklift, scissor lift
    • Use Hand Tools
Project Planning & Execution
  • Implement project execution plans in coordination with the project team, focusing on field execution and logistics.
  • Ensure compliance with plans, specifications, submittals, and company standards.
  • Support the development of site logistics, material delivery coordination, and workforce scheduling.
  • Identify and resolve onsite issues and conflicts to maintain steady momentum.
Financial Management
  • Monitor labor and equipment utilization to ensure alignment with budget goals.
  • Assist with scope review, change order documentation, and accountability.
  • Provide input on cost-saving opportunities and value engineering in field execution.
Schedule Management
  • Maintain and update short-interval β€œlook-ahead” schedules.
  • Coordinate daily and weekly work activities to meet project milestones.
  • Communicate schedule impacts and recovery strategies with supervisor.
Quality Assurance
  • Enforce quality control processes and verify that work is performed to design specifications, codes, and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular field inspections and correct deficiencies proactively.
Safety Compliance
  • Champion a safety-first culture and ensure all work is performed in compliance with OSHA and company safety policies.
  • Conduct daily safety briefings and job hazard analysis (JHA) with crews.
Client & Stakeholder Communication
  • Represent the company professionally on the job site with owners, architects, consultants, inspectors, subcontractors, and other employees.
  • Communicate daily site progress, challenges, and needs to supervisor.
  • Participate in coordination meetings and assist in maintaining positive relationships with project partners.
Team Leadership & Coordination
  • Lead and supervise field labor personnel to ensure cohesive site operations.
  • Provide direction, mentorship, and accountability to crews, fostering a productive and respectful jobsite culture.
  • Ensure that all team members understand the project goals, timelines, and safety expectations.
Project Documentation
  • Maintain accurate field reports, daily logs, safety checklists, and as-built documentation.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 5–10 years of progressive construction experience as a carpenter.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret construction documents and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of construction means, methods, scheduling, and safety practices.
  • OSHA 30 certification required; First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have valid driver license; Requires regional driving daily.
  • Regular lifting of 50 pounds is required; ability to lift 100 pounds required.
Work Environment:
  • This role is based on active construction sites.
  • Requires walking, climbing, standing, crouching, and lifting on uneven terrain and varying weather conditions.
  • Requires work from ladders, scaffolding, and equipment.
  • May involve extended hours, weekends, or shift work depending on project requirements.
