Pay: The expected hiring range for this position is from $64,000-$80,000/year plus additional bonus opportunity.

The stated hiring range is based on experience, qualifications, and other relevant factors. Final compensation decisions will take into account a variety of considerations, including individual skills, internal equity, and organizational needs.

JOB SUMMARY

The Marketing Strategist is a key driver of marketing success, spearheading diverse projects, programs, and promotions with a collaborative spirit. This role works across multiple teams, including Vanderbilt Leadership, Clayton Retail, VMF Tech, Consumer Insights, Audit, and Legal, ensuring collective execution from strategy to implementation. Focused on optimizing key performance indicators, budgets, branding, and design, the strategist provides leadership with customer-first insights and forward-thinking recommendations. The ideal candidate will be a strategic digital marketer with expertise in driving engagement through data-driven strategies across multiple channels, including SEO, paid search, social media, and content marketing. This role requires a balance of analytical thinking and creative execution to optimize campaigns, track performance metrics, and refine digital strategies that enhance brand visibility and customer engagement.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Marketing and Brand Management

  • Seeks to understand, analyze and provide recommendations for digital marketing methods (SEO, SEM, social media, email, etc.), and reports to leadership.
  • Plans, executes, and optimizes multi-channel digital campaigns, ensuring alignment with business objectives and maximizing ROI.
  • Handles the content management system (CMS) to create, update, and maintain website pages. Monitors key website performance metrics (e.g., users, bounce rate, conversions) and makes data-informed recommendations for improvement.
  • Content writing for short and long form content creation. Able to apply brand voice and tone across content mediums and can take complex financial concepts and create content that is customer first and simple to understand.
  • Leverages creative and graphic design skills to develop on brand digital and physical assets that enhance the brand and promote products and programs.
  • Acts as a gatekeeper of the Vanderbilt brand, ensuring consistent and accurate representation across all platforms.
  • Participates in communication teams to create content that reflects and supports the organization’s culture, brand, and vision.
  • Collaborates with Vanderbilt leadership to develop new campaign ideas aimed at enhancing the overall customer experience in marketing.

Project Planning and Execution

  • Develops comprehensive project plans outlining scope, goals, deliverables, timelines, and resource requirements.
  • Oversees the end-to-end execution of projects, timelines, resources, and budgets.
  • Conducts cross-functional collaboration with corporate marketing, marketing compliance, corporate legal, tech, and Vanderbilt teams to understand project requirements and dependencies.
  • Fosters a collaborative environment and facilitates effective communication among team members and vendors.
  • Engages with key stakeholders to gather project requirements, expectations, and feedback.
  • Provides regular updates to stakeholders on project progress, milestones, and potential risks.
  • Identifies potential risks and challenges associated with projects and develops mitigation strategies.
  • Continuously explores new methods, tools, and technologies to improve marketing execution and effectiveness.
  • Coordinates with outside vendors for fulfillment and to ensure execution and delivery of marketing materials and products.
  • Manages the intake, assignment, and completion of project requests within the enterprise project management platform, ensuring smooth workflow progression and timely fulfillment.

Data Analysis

  • Creates and maintains detailed reports on marketing campaigns and products, identifying key trends, spending patterns, and actionable insights to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Measures and regularly reports the effectiveness of marketing campaigns, promotions, and programs through comprehensive dashboards shared with leadership.
  • Seeks and provides information to help Vanderbilt determine its position within the marketplace for all originated products.
  • Collaborates with Business Development Managers to gather competitive intelligence and analyze competitors’ pricing, sales strategies, and marketing/distribution methods, reporting findings to leadership
  • Gathers, forecasts, and tracks market share and retail sales trends to analyze and suggest actionable insights.
  • Gathers data from market, vendors and analyzes pricing, sales, methods of marketing/distribution, and reports findings to leadership.
  • Reviews and updates monthly accounting, invoicing, and budgeting and reports to leadership.

Compliance

  • Manages vendor relationships to deliver marketing products including adhering to compliance.
  • Partners with marketing compliance, corporate legal and audit to ensure compliance of marketing materials.
  • Maintains and updates the SharePoint repository, ensuring advertising materials are properly documented in accordance with Vanderbilt’s Operations Manual; facilitates auditor access to requested documents as needed.
  • Manages and updates opt in and affiliate marketing processes and procedures.
  • Ensures all disclaimers are current for point-of-sale and digital materials; coordinates the collection of expired materials from Retail Home Centers
  • Performs monthly audits of advertising materials.
  • Reviews, audits, and updates marketing policies and procedures and guidelines.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Experience: 3-5 years’ related experience required; prior experience in the business, marketing, or communications a plus.
  • Must have strong computer skills with ability to navigate Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with digital marketing channels (SEO, PPC, social media, content marketing) and data analytics platforms (Google Analytics, social media insights, etc.).
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with leadership, creative teams, compliance, legal, and external vendors.
  • Experience managing marketing compliance and ensuring adherence to legal guidelines.
  • Familiarity with enterprise project management tools and CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Teamwork, Smart Sheets, or similar).
  • Provides exceptional project management and communication skills throughout all processes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently via phone, email, and person to person.
  • Capability of gathering facts accurately, analyzing causes, evaluating alternate solutions, and arriving at sound conclusions on action to be taken.
  • Ability to manage multiple and/or conflicting responsibilities.
  • Great attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.
  • Will be constantly operating a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a telephone, calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Will be communicating 75% of the time over the phone.
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information at all times.
  • Must be able to identify and assess account status and determine appropriate process.
  • Will constantly work in a state-of-the-art indoor temperature controlled, sealed window office environment.
