What Your Day Will Look Like:

Consor is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual to join our Construction Services team as a Materials Laboratory Technician. This position focuses primarily on laboratory testing of construction materials in support of heavy civil transportation and infrastructure projects. The role is based in our Utah office and offers an excellent opportunity to grow technical skills in a collaborative, supportive environment.

Position Overview: The Materials Laboratory Technician plays a critical role in ensuring construction materials meet project specifications and industry standards. This position performs standardized laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt; documents results; and supports engineers and project managers with accurate, timely data. A strong attention to detail, commitment to safety, and adherence to established testing procedures are essential for success.

What You'll Do:

Laboratory Testing

  • Perform laboratory testing of construction materials including:
    • Aggregate gradations
    • Proctor moisture-density relationships
    • Concrete cylinder strength testing
    • Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) testing
  • Conduct tests in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and project-specific procedures
  • Prepare, label, handle, and store material samples properly

Documentation & Reporting

  • Accurately record test data and perform required calculations
  • Prepare daily materials testing data sheets and laboratory reports
  • Maintain organized testing records and documentation

Collaboration & Quality Support

  • Work closely with engineers, project managers, and fellow technicians to support quality assurance efforts
  • Communicate test results and material concerns professionally and clearly

Laboratory & Equipment Maintenance

  • Maintain laboratory testing equipment and tools
  • Follow safety protocols and proper laboratory procedures
  • Keep the laboratory clean, organized, and inspection-ready

What You'll Need:

  • Prior experience in construction materials testing or laboratory work preferred
  • Familiarity with construction documentation and testing procedures is a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standardized procedures
  • High school diploma required; an associate degree or coursework in civil engineering, construction technology, or materials science is preferred.
  • Valid Utah Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of experience in construction materials testing, geotechnical lab work, or civil construction services
  • Familiarity with ASTM and AASHTO standards
  • Entry-level certifications such as:
    • ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician Grade I
    • NICET Level I – Construction Materials Testing
    • Or equivalent certifications
