Job Description The MRO and CAPEX Buyer is responsible for managing the end-to-end procurement of Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) materials and Capital Expenditures (CAPEX) for production equipment and facility upgrades. This role plays a critical part in optimizing supply chains, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring the cost-effective acquisition of operational maintenance items and long-term capital assets across multiple manufacturing sites.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. MRO Procurement (Primary Focus)
Source, evaluate, and manage suppliers for MRO materials, including spare parts, maintenance tools, safety supplies, lubricants, and electrical components.
Negotiate pricing, contracts, and delivery terms to secure reliable supply chains and achieve cost savings.
Analyze historical usage data to forecast demand, optimize inventory levels, and prevent production downtime.
Ensure compliance with safety (OSHA, NFPA), environmental (EPA), and quality standards.
Drive process improvements for purchase requisition (PR) to purchase order (PO) workflows.
2. CAPEX Procurement (Secondary Focus)
Lead the procurement of capital assets, including new production equipment, facility upgrades, and technology systems.
Collaborate with engineering, operations, and finance teams to define requirements, develop RFPs/RFQs, and evaluate vendor proposals.
Negotiate long-term contracts, lease agreements, or financing options for CAPEX projects, ensuring alignment with budgetary goals and ROI targets.
Manage vendor performance for CAPEX projects, including installation timelines, warranty terms, and post-purchase support.
3. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with maintenance, engineering, and finance teams to prioritize both urgent MRO needs and strategic CAPEX initiatives.
Coordinate with logistics and legal teams to manage customs clearance, installation logistics, and contract compliance for imported equipment or materials.
Provide regular updates to leadership on procurement progress, cost variances, and risk mitigation strategies.
4. Cost Optimization & Compliance
Identify opportunities to consolidate suppliers and leverage volume discounts for both MRO and CAPEX categories.
Ensure procurement activities align with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., ITAR, EAR for imported equipment).
Prepare performance reports on cost savings, on-time delivery rates, and asset utilization for both operational and capital purchases.
Skills and Qualifications
Expertise in operational procurement (MRO) and capital asset acquisition.
Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and procurement tools (e.g., Ariba, Coupa).
Strong financial acumen for evaluating CAPEX proposals, ROI models, and depreciation strategies.
Exceptional negotiation skills and experience managing complex vendor relationships.
