Job Summary
The Commissioning Specialist is responsible for the commissioning of new construction projects to ensure projects are turned over to operations for future safe and reliable operations. The Commissioning Specialist is responsible for verifying the project controls system fully functions and operates in alignment with engineering designs and equipment specifications. The control system operation shall align with Vistra fleet standards and Fleet SME guidance. The Commissioning Specialist shall coordinate with EPC Contractors, Controls suppliers, and owners engineers to ensure all necessary testing and commissioning is completed for turnover to Vistra Operations. Travel for the project will be necessary and may require extended travel to meet project needs.Job Description
Key Accountabilities
•This position works with guidance from the Commissioning Manager to provide owners oversight of projects. The Commissioning Engineer/Specialist will be onsite to monitor field commissioning activities performed by the contractor as well as lead commissioning activities for Owner supplied equipment. The Commissioning Engineer will perform hands on work including setting and validating equipment parameters, troubleshooting, and trending equipment. They will also be expected to prepare and present routine reports. The position will require effective working relationships with both Vistra employees as well as external to Vistra.
•Develop engineering / control system design and equipment specifications for each project in accordance with Vistra standard specifications and Fleet SME guidance
•Establish commissioning and testing procedures that can be standardized across all projects and modified as needed for specific projects.
•Coordinate delivery and installation of system controls equipment
•Provide on-site technical expertise and coordination with Fleet SME resources
•Construct, implement and document commissioning and testing processes and procedures
•Coordinate with key stakeholders (controls vendors, Vistra IT, Vistra Cybersecurity, Vistra Operations, and Vistra Commercial teams)
•Support projects post commissioning/operation as required to ensure successful turnover
•Ensure contract deliverables are interpreted and executed on-time, on-budget and within safety and performance requirements
•Develop and support documentation turnover from essential contractors during commissioning
Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements
•Required experience in Power Plant Control Systems
•Ability to look critically at a problem set, identify unique solutions and influence change
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills – to be applied across the organization and externally, including the ability to confidently and effectively explain engineering requirements, including to non-technical audiences.
•Occasional long, irregular hours. May often require the employee to work in excess of 12 hours per day and in excess of seven (7) consecutive days. This position requires frequent travel and/or long-term assignments away from home.
