Summary

Perform journey level work in the construction and maintenance of parks and related facilities.

Essential Functions

  • Repair, maintain and install park equipment including picnic tables, benches, signs, and related fixtures;
  • Assist crews in set-up for special events including moveable bleachers, staging and sound equipment, props and other equipment;
  • Operate trucks, backhoes, tractors, forklifts, jackhammers and other construction equipment as required;
  • Supervise the work of temporary employees making repairs at various locations on the route;
  • Maintain vehicles and equipment as required;
  • Purchase materials and supplies needed to accomplish daily assignments as approved.  Use approved purchasing procedures;
  • Troubleshoot and repair water fountains, faucets, drip lines, toilets, sinks, sprinkler heads and other plumbing fixtures as required;
  • Cut and make reliable welds to repair metal objects or equipment;
  • Perform related duties as required.

Qualifications

Position requires completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional one year experience in maintenance and construction of parks and related facilities; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:

 

Physical Exam Required
Valid Texas Driver's License

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Operation and maintenance of motorized vehicles and equipment typically used in construction and maintenance;
  • Types of hand tools and power tools typically used in construction and maintenance;
  • Methods involved in routine plumbing, concrete construction, carpentry, and clean up of large areas.
Ability to:
  • Perform manual tasks requiring physical strength and endurance;
  • Follow oral and written instructions;
  • Work cooperatively with others;
  • Supervise the work of others.
Physical Requirements
  • Continuously lift and carry up to 25 pounds;
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds;
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 100 pounds;
  • Continuously stand and walk during the shift;
  • Frequently climb ladders, scaffolding, stairs and inclined surfaces;
  • Frequently bend and kneel during the shift;
  • Frequently push and pull objects;
  • Frequently flex upper trunk forward, partial flexing of knees;
  • Frequently rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing;
  • Frequently reach arms above, at or below shoulder height;
  • Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle or equipment.
