The Per Diem Compliance Supervisor oversees the administration, monitoring, and enforcement of per diem programs to ensure compliance with internal policies, client contracts, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This role combines regulatory oversight, audit readiness, and team leadership to minimize risk, prevent misuse, and support accurate, timely per diem payments.
Key Responsibilities
• Supervise day-to-day per diem compliance operations and staff activities
• Interpret and enforce corporate per diem policies and client-specific requirements
• Monitor per diem eligibility, payment accuracy, and documentation standards
• Conduct regular audits and reviews to identify errors, fraud, or policy deviations
• Investigate discrepancies and resolve compliance issues promptly
• Develop, update, and maintain per diem compliance procedures and controls
• Ensure alignment with IRS guidelines, Department of Labor regulations, and other applicable laws
• Serve as the subject matter expert for per diem compliance questions
• Partner with payroll, HR, finance, and operations teams to ensure consistent application of policies
• Prepare compliance reports, metrics, and audit documentation for internal and external stakeholders
• Support internal and external audits, including respondingto findings and implementing corrective actions
• Train employees and supervisors on per diem rules, documentation, and best practices
• Recommend process improvements and system enhancements to strengthen compliance
Supervisory Responsibilities
• Directly supervise per diem compliance support staff
• Set performance expectations, provide coaching, and conduct performance reviews
• Ensure adequate staffing, coverage, and training within the compliance team
Preferred Qualifications
• 3–5+ years of experience in payroll, per diem administration, compliance, or auditing
• Prior supervisory or lead experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of per diem regulations, IRS accountable plan rules, and wage & hour compliance
• Experience with audits, investigations, and compliance reporting
Skills and Competencies
• High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to interpret regulations and apply them in operational settings
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Proficiency with payroll systems, HRIS, and Microsoft Excel or similar too
