Process Engineer - Knoxville, TN

Position Summary:
 We are seeking a Process Engineer to join our Knoxville manufacturing team. This role is focused on reducing process variation to minimize waste, lower operational costs, and improve equipment uptime. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Process Engineer will lead and support engineering initiatives through hands-on problem-solving, data analysis, and continuous improvement strategies. This position offers the opportunity to explore and lead initiatives that improve performance across the facility.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and control narratives for manufacturing processes.
  • Investigate root causes of process inefficiencies and downtime by collecting input from operators and technicians, and analyzing production data.
  • Design and conduct trials to test hypotheses, analyze results, and implement sustainable improvements.
  • Create project scopes, budgets, and cost-benefit analyses; request capital funding and manage project execution.
  • Specify instrumentation and process controls required to support process enhancements.
  • Lead installation, commissioning, and optimization of new equipment and process upgrades to meet performance objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with production, maintenance, and contractor teams to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Participate in daily operations meetings, weekly department check-ins, monthly team reviews, and annual safety training.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation, including technical reports, trial records, and change logs.
  • Travel occasionally for training and professional development.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and technical writing.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong mechanical intuition and data-driven problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using MS Visio, Minitab, or SQL Server Management Studio.
  • Familiarity with Cognex Vision Systems, SAP, Siemens Step7/TIA Portal, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), DeltaV DCS, or AVEVA System Platform.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment:
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and use hands frequently; occasionally sit, climb, kneel, or crawl.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally (with assistance when needed).
  • May be exposed to moving machinery, elevated work areas, airborne particulates, chemicals, hot or noisy environments, and electrical systems.
  • Must be able to follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
