Position Overview:
Alterman, Inc. has an opening for the position of Project Designer 1 in the Austin Division. They will be responsible for providing support and services for Alterman projects as assigned by the Manager, Pre-Construction, and Project Support.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain effective communications with appropriate team members and advise them of any significant issues/problems encountered timely, along with recommended solutions.
- Assume additional tasks that are assigned by the Manager of PC-PS or which are logically inherent to this position.
- Ensure that all duties this position are carried out in compliance with Alterman’s stated mission, vision, values, safety standards, and company policies and procedures.
- Assist in identifying "critical path activities" of projects and, when directed, assist in preparing documentation of the major processes required to accomplish these activities.
- Be willing to put in the effort that is necessary to ensure that job duties are performed completely and accurately.
- Advise the appropriate team members of any significant problems encountered along with recommended solutions in a timely manner.
- Use Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Recap and other software to support the VDC process.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
Qualifications:
- Completion of the Inside Wireman Apprenticeship or similar/equivalent training.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience working and studying in the electrical construction industry.
- Beyond the desired education level listed above, this position requires continuous education directly related to this position. These hours, courses, training or certifications are to be approved by the employee's department manager before attending classes in order to be accepted under this plan.
- Ability to read and understand plans and specifications to include blueprints, proposals, and other documents as they relate to electrical work.
- Knowledge and understanding of all systems such as Fire Alarm, Lighting Control, Access Control, BAS, etc.
- Strong and effective oral and written communications skills. Ability to use effective reasoning and good judgment abilities.
- Knowledge of current National Electrical Codes as well as local and state electrical codes.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demanding and changing conditions while maintaining a positive and proactive attitude.
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient computer skills with all basic office programs (Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook) and the ability to learn and use related software (Revit/Navisworks/AutoCAD) is required.
