SUMMARY
The Inventory Planning Specialist plays a key role in ensuring the equipment is available to meet customer demand. This position partners closely with Caterpillar, vendors, and internal sales teams to plan, order, and manage new machine and attachment inventory. Responsibilities include coordinating equipment orders, tracking inventory, maintaining accurate records, and facilitating dealer trades to support sales opportunities.
In addition, the role contributes to forecasting and strategic inventory planning by managing equipment forecasts in Caterpillar’s Dealer Planning Application (DPA), analyzing inventory levels and sales trends, and supporting the Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and highly collaborative, with a focus on optimizing inventory availability and driving business performance.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully it requires a self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented individual with strong analytical and communication skills. The ability to multi-task, prioritize work, and interact effectively with internal teams, vendors, Caterpillar representatives, and other Caterpillar dealers is essential.
The successful candidate must be able to comprehend a broad range of information related to equipment specifications, inventory levels, and sales demand while working efficiently and successfully with minimal supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Place all new machine and attachment orders with Caterpillar and various vendors.
· Track ordered units and coordinate transportation and delivery to company locations.
· Monitor incoming equipment and verify order accuracy upon arrival.
· Maintain machine specifications, configurations, descriptions, and pricing in Dealer Business System.
· Analyze current inventory levels, incoming units, and sales activity to support inventory planning decisions.
· Assist Operations Manager with maintaining equipment forecasts within Caterpillar’s Dealer Planning Application (DPA).
· Assist in analyzing sales history, quoting trends, and inventory levels to support forecast accuracy.
· Prepare information and reports used in monthly inventory review and planning meetings.
· Coordinate dealer trades and transfers with other dealers to support customer sales opportunities.
· Maintain strong working relationships with the Cat dealer network to assist with sourcing equipment when needed.
· Coordinate transportation logistics for equipment transfers and dealer trades.
· Assist the sales team with machine configuration decisions and inventory availability.
· Work with quoting system to ensure machine specifications and pricing are accurate for sales quotes.
· Review and approve vendor invoices related to equipment purchases, alterations, and transportation.
· Maintain history files and documentation for audit purposes.
· Participate in monthly inventory counts and inventory accuracy initiatives.
· Travel as required for inventory meetings and trainings.
· Maintain professional relationships with vendor representatives and internal teams.
· Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, or a related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and related experience in inventory management, forecasting, sales operations, or supply chain planning preferred.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
· PC literate with proficient knowledge in Microsoft Word and Excel.
· Strong analytical and mathematical aptitude.
· Mechanical aptitude and ability to understand equipment specifications.
· Ability to read and interpret schematic drawings regarding equipment specifications.
· Strong organizational and communication skills.
· Ability to analyze inventory and sales data to support planning decisions.
· Must type 50 WPM with data entry experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have a valid California driver license Class C or higher and a clean DMV report.

COMPENSATION
Wage Range $72,000 - $85,000 Salary
Wage depends on knowledge, skills and ability to perform the responsibilities of the job.
