Position Overview

The Scale House Attendant is responsible for performing a wide variety of field office support functions including, but not limited to: weighing and ticketing trucks, preparing daily load summaries, managing inventory, accepting payment, basic typing and word processing, filing, answering calls, light bookkeeping, courier duties, customer relations, etc.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Greets incoming and outgoing truck drivers at the scale house.
  • Ascertain the client name for each sales order.
  • Utilize computerized dispatch system to weigh trucks and evaluate sales orders.
  • Communicates with central dispatch and management via telephone or two-way radio.
  • Communicate with management to accurately report daily sales data.
  • Receives orders and answer questions of the customers in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Maintains daily housekeeping duties for scale house and scale including keeping scale clean and performing maintenance.
  • Process all credit card and cash transactions for COD customers.
  • Accurately maintain petty cash at the assigned location including making correct change, keeping an accurate balance and record of transactions and reconciling daily.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
  • Prior experience in the aggregates production industry preferred.

 

Work Requirements

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Regular, on-time and consistent attendance is required and must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary. 
  • Must be able to travel as required.

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Must be proficient in Excel, Word and Outlook, and database software. Must be able to utilize internet and communicate effectively. 
  • Ability to read, comprehend and write simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Maintain a knowledge of aggregate sizes, classifications, weight requirements for loads and other required information to successfully execute proper scaling
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical skills such as addition, subtraction and multiplication.
  • Able to work independently with attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions from supervisors to complete assigned tasks.
  • Must display a willingness and ability to work in and adapt to changes in circumstances, tasks, customer needs and other conditions that may affect their daily responsibilities.
  • Ability to provide great customer service and display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and MHSA.

 

 

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

 

  • Regularly required to sit, talk or hear and use hands and fingers to manipulate/handle objects.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms and lift and/or move up to 10 lbs.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, climb or crouch, lift and/or move up to 30 lbs.
  • Able to communicate with others by telephone, electronically and in person.
  • Able to utilize office equipment including a computer for word processing, email communication, and preparation of documents and presentations.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
  • May require sitting for extended periods of time.

 

 

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.  A variety of noise levels, adverse weather conditions, and complex job sites are to be expected daily. Proper clothing, PPE (personal protective equipment) is required, and safety precautions should be taken to ensure your safety, and the safety of others in all conditions.  While performing non-field duties in this position, the environment is typical of an office setting and the noise level is usually quiet to moderate.
