Job Summary
The Semi Driver is primarily responsible for driving a tractor-trailer. This individual will be delivering construction materials to and from asphalt plants and job sites with a dump trailer, hauling barrier walls, etc. with a flatbed and pulling a lowboy to transport heavy construction equipment to and from jobsites. The individual is responsible for the safety of the truck, material(s), and equipment that is being hauled. Working with Brooks Construction Supervisors will be necessary in order to get the job done correctly. This individual may also at times be needed to operate a tri-axle dump truck.
Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Complies with all Department of Transportation (DOT), state, and local regulations, including maintaining records.
- Adheres to all company safety policies.
- Completes daily pre-trip truck inspections.
- Operates a tractor-trailer for various types of construction jobs & hauling needs.
- Operates a tractor and trailer to perform assigned tasks relating to hauling equipment, plant stocking, road construction, repair and paving.
- Rolls and unrolls a tarp manually on dump trailers when hauling materials.
- Demonstrates basic knowledge on heavy construction equipment and the safe and proper use of assigned equipment.
- Maintains a basic geographic knowledge of northeastern Indiana and uses a tablet for permitting and maps.
- Works overtime and various shifts based on the needs of the job.
- Calculates the preparation time for on time deliveries.
- Coordinates repairs needed on a truck in a timely manner.
- Keeps up to date with federal or state regulations related to items being transported.
- Adapts quickly to change throughout the workday and/or workweek.

Education and Experience
- Must hold and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License valid for Semi-Tractor Trailers and manual transmissions.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience driving a tractor-trailer.
- Knowledge of heavy construction equipment is preferred.
- Highly desire a member in good standing with the local Teamsters union or willing to become a member.
Physical Requirements
- Lifting/Carrying: Up to 50 lbs. frequently
- Pushing/Pulling: Up to 50 lbs. frequently
- Movement Requirements: Must be able to safely climb on and off tractor and lowboy trailer, including frequent mounting/dismounting of equipment; bend, stoop, and kneel to secure loads using chains, binders, and straps; and perform inspections and adjustments in varying conditions without limitation.
- Meets the minimum physical requirements stipulated in Section 391.41 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety
Working Environment
- Individual will be working in a field environment.
- Individual will be working with internal customers (Dispatch, Foremen, Project Managers, Field Superintendents, etc.).
- Ability to work outdoors in all seasons and all-weather conditions (including rain, snow, extreme heat or cold, water, mud, dust, etc.).
- Willing to work evenings, weekends, and long hours/extensive overtime (sunrise to sunset) when necessary (often with little or no notice).
