Job Description:
Provide engineering support to superintendents and crafts, verify materials, equipment, and workmanship, and assure results meet design requirements. Ensure construction activities are executed safely with the highest quality standards while monitoring cost and schedule of assigned work.
Interface and coordinate all aspects of construction with design, procurement, security, safety, operations, health physics, quality control, scheduling, cost, and management. Develop construction scope turnover packages and coordinate system completion and testing activities in support of turnover schedules.
Direct preparation of work packages and ensure craft personnel understand requirements. Maintain continuity with quality control to ensure work meets requirements. Coordinate with design organizations for timely issuance of new or revised design documents.
Lead constructability efforts and provide technical expertise on construction methods and practices. Ensure construction work is completed correctly and fully. Provide technical and programmatic direction to construction engineering personnel as required.
Provide construction testing and startup support. Administer assigned subcontracts. Support nonconformance report and corrective action resolution. Design temporary construction facilities as needed. Assist in establishing maintenance requirements for permanent plant equipment.
Coordinate subcontract activities to ensure compliance with contract documents, including materials, equipment, and workmanship.
Work schedule is typically a 40-hour week, with potential schedules including 5/8s, 4/10s, or 9/80s. Overtime may be required based on project needs.
Required Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline and at least 5 – 7 years of practical experience in construction engineering or related areas
OR
Associate's degree and 7 – 9 years of practical experience
OR
High school diploma and 10 – 14 years of practical experience
General knowledge of system testing and operations is helpful to support system turnover and pre-operational testing
Leadership training in methods improvement is desirable
Other Required Qualifications:
Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance
An active DOE clearance is not required initially
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous DOE clearance (L or Q) held within the past two (2) years
Additional Duties:
Provide construction engineering support for fabrication, installation, and maintenance activities
Perform walkdowns and constructability reviews of design documents
Perform material takeoffs
Develop construction work execution plans and permits
Perform job hazards analysis
Provide oversight and inspection of construction activities
Interface with quality personnel, design engineers, and construction management to coordinate execution and resolve field issues
Review and close work execution documentation
Additional Experience Requirements:
Demonstrated ability to perform construction work planning, job hazards analysis, and material takeoffs associated with civil discipline scopes
Previous experience supporting SRS construction engineering, work planning, job hazards analysis, and material procurement using site-specific processes, programs, procedures, and systems is preferred
