Job Description:
The Senior EHS Engineer is an integral leader on the project team working proactively to support the successful completion of a construction project. This position actively contributes to the project team in planning, monitoring work activities, and achieving correction of unsafe acts or conditions while working at project site. The role encompasses managing key relationships, providing expertise and solutions, and holding people accountable to ensure a safe work environment for team members, subcontractors, and visitors.Anticipate project risks, high-risk activity, and negative trends and supports Superintendent and project teams with solutions.
Develop contacts and communication with owner and subcontractor EHS representatives with the intent to lead EHS initiatives.
Review Safety Submittals and prepare and deliver preconstruction and planning meetings with subcontractors.
Reviews crane/hoisting plans, demo plans, excavation and soil classification, ISLM and ICRA requirements, competent person scaffolding, hot work permits, hazardous materials reports, silica exposure control plans.
Assists project team with Site Specific Safety Plan and Logistics plan (Public safety, wayfinding).
Reviews and compiles Sub SDS sheets.
Runs or facilitates effective All-Hands Safety Meetings, Orientations, and planning meetings.
Leads accident investigation and develops and trains emergency response team and maintains documentation.
Conduct work area EHS audits.
Conduct or assist with major incident analysis.
Monitor and analyze safety, injury, and hazard statistics for improvement plans.
Ensure OSHA compliance.
Monitor and review subcontractor work plans and activities for EHS concerns.
Accompany safety, health, insurance, and OSHA personnel on work-site inspections.
Understands the EHS budget (developed by the Project Manager) allocated for project.
Assist with onsite injury management and case management.
Participate in and contribute to project planning and hazard analysis.
Assist in other duties as assigned, relevant to the achievement of the position’s and team’s objectives.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
4-7 years of EHS experience within construction industry.
Strong knowledge and understanding of OSHA and other industry related EHS regulations required.
Excellent communication, written and interpersonal skills.
Ability to lead people and manage professional relationships with owners, external agencies, and subcontractors.
Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Proficient with MS Office software.
Must possess a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record in accordance with Fortis policy.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed on an active construction site. Role requires standing or walking for long periods of time. Utilize standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc. Communication with internal and external contacts, including speaking and hearing. May occasionally move equipment up to 50 lbs.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
