Position Overview

Initiates technical programs and solves complex technical problems using internal and external knowledge bases. Provides recognized expertise in nuclear safety and leads technical solutions that support site mission objectives. Applies advanced technical practices, incorporates complex requirements, and provides leadership in the resolution of highly complex technical challenges.

Supports development, review, and implementation of nuclear safety documentation across multiple facilities. Provides technical assistance for safety analyses, technical safety requirements, and related documentation while ensuring compliance with DOE requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Initiate technical programs and solve complex technical problems using internal and external knowledge databases

  • Provide recognized technical credibility within field of expertise

  • Lead teams to solve complex technical problems and fully utilize technical resources

  • Apply specialized or broad-based technical experience to resolve complex problems

  • Incorporate advanced technical practices, complex requirements, new materials or processes, and difficult coordination into program planning

  • Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as an expert in functional technical areas

  • Recommend engineering and technical research programs and assist with planning

  • Develop solutions to complex technical problems while responding to organizational needs

  • Identify technical areas where specialized knowledge can solve programs of interest to the organization and DOE

  • Prepare plans including schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements for major technical tasks

  • Develop schedules, monitor progress, track expenditures, and review quality of work performed

  • Support research, development, testing, and quality assurance requirements

  • Communicate results verbally and in written form

  • Provide documentation, presentations, and coordination support for assigned tasks

  • Mentor less senior professionals and support knowledge transfer

  • Maintain technical expertise and professional recognition through publications, professional organizations, and technical contributions

  • Support development, review, and implementation of nuclear safety documentation

  • Provide technical assistance in developing safety analyses, technical safety requirements, and supporting documentation

  • Ensure nuclear safety documentation complies with requirements and controls are implemented in field procedures

  • Conduct Nuclear Safety Program assessments and maintain program manuals


Required Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • PhD and approximately 12+ years of experience, OR

  • MS and approximately 15+ years of experience, OR

  • BS and approximately 18+ years of experience

  • Minimum ofย 20 years of recent experience in the nuclear safety industry through DOE or commercial nuclear support

Experience and Skills

  • Mastery of technical field and recognized as an internal expert

  • Demonstrated depth of knowledge to tackle complex nuclear safety problems

  • Personal accountability for schedules, deadlines, budgets, and safe performance of work

  • Proficiency performing Nuclear Safety Program assessments

  • Experience using and implementing:

    • 10 CFR 830

    • DOE O 413.3

    • DOE O 420.1

    • Related DOE directives and standards

Clearance

  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q clearance

  • Subcontractor must have active eFOCI registration and approved Facility Level Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previously held DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two years

  • Experience preparing or reviewing Safety Basis documents supporting DOE capital projects within the past two years

  • Direct experience applying:

    • DOE-STD-3009-2014

    • DOE-STD-1189-2016

  • Experience developing, reviewing, and maintaining SRS safety basis documents

Work Schedule

Up to 40 hours per week using site schedules including 5/8s, 4/10s, or 9/80. Overtime may be required to meet deliverables.
