A Senior Structural Engineer plays a pivotal role in the development and implementation of engineering projects, ensuring the structural integrity and safety of buildings and infrastructure. This position involves advanced technical knowledge, project management skills, and leadership abilities to guide junior engineers and designers collaborating with cross-functional teams.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead the design and analysis of complex structural systems for buildings, such as but not limited to steel, reinforced concrete, precast, Tilt- Up, masonry, and shallow and deep foundations. Utilize advanced software and tools to model and simulate structural behavior under various loads and conditions. 
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations. 
  • Oversee the planning, scheduling, and execution of structural engineering projects from inception to completion. 
  • Coordinate with architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met. 
  • Develop economical, high-performance options and implement final selected design solutions.
  • Manage project budgets, timelines, and resources effectively. 
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to designers, junior engineers and technical staff. 
  • Review and approve submittals, technical drawings, calculations, and reports. 
  • Conduct site visits and assessments to ensure construction quality and adherence to design drawings and specifications. 
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, advancements, and best practices in structural engineering. 
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in design and construction methodologies. 
  • Contribute to the development of discipline design standards, policies, and procedures. 
  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

 

  • Expertise in structural analysis, structural design software, and FEM (e.g., RAM, ENERCALC, RISA, and similar)

 

  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and other drafting and modeling tools. 

 

  • Strong understanding of building codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., AISC, ACI, ASCE). 
  • Ability to develop force resisting systems for lateral, gravity and dead load paths and loading combinations.
  • Prepare design solutions for complex and unique structural challenges.
  • Evaluate member assemblies and systems, delegating connection design and specialize systems and components.
  • Share experience and expertise with others
  • Develop training programs to expand the younger engineer's ability to achieve long-term success.

 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams. 

 

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. 

 

  • Leadership qualities with the ability to mentor and develop junior engineers. 

 

  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safety. 

 

 

Education/Experience:

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Architectural Engineering. 

 

  • Master's degree is preferred. 

 

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in structural engineering, with a proven track record of successful project delivery. 

 

  • Experience in leading and managing large-scale structural engineering projects. 

 

 

Travel Requirements:

 

  • Flexibility to travel on short notice for urgent business needs, to attend meetings, trainings, and events. 

 

  • Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance during business trips. 

 

  • Compliance with company travel policies and procedures. 

 

 

Physical Requirements:

 

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time. 

 

  • Ability to use a computer, phone, printer, scanner, and other office equipment. 

 

  • Visual acuity for detailed work and computer use 

 

  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 25 pounds of files, documents, and materials.
