Description
  • We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Service Technician to perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on a wide range of construction and rental equipment. The primary objective of this role is to minimize equipment downtime through efficient troubleshooting and timely service. This position requires advanced knowledge of diesel and gas engines, AC/DC electrical systems, and hydraulic and pneumatic components. Tates Rents is an employee-owned and operated business that has been serving Idaho since 1946.
Requirements

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work every day to create a safer environment for customers and coworkers by making safety a number one priority. Attend safety training when requested and be aware of all situations, even when it does not directly affect you. 
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and repairs on a broad variety of construction and rental equipment.
  • Diagnose and service hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, diesel, and gasoline-powered systems.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to on-site service calls.
  • Continuously improve technical knowledge of equipment and service procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of all repairs, parts, and service activities.
  • Keep work areas and service vehicles organized and clean.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Skills & Requirements

  • Proven mechanical experience with a strong understanding of engine diagnostics, electrical systems, and hydraulic/pneumatic repairs.
  • Must supply own tools relevant to the position.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain positive relationships with coworkers and customers.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • High level of patience, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to clearly speak and write in English; proficiency in another language is a plus.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Valid driver’s license required (must be 21 or older for driving-related positions).
  • High school diploma or GED required.

Preferred Qualification

  • Certification in diesel or heavy equipment repair.
  • Certification in small engine repair.
  • Prior experience working with rental equipment or in a similar industry.
  • Welding and Fabrication skills.
  • Basic computer skills for service documentation.

Working conditions

  • Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
  • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.
  • Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.
  • The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
  • The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
