Summary: The Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) is responsible for overseeing all aspects of health and safety on the construction site and for fulfilling the role and requirements of the Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO). This position ensures compliance with OSHA, EM 385-1-1 and Sevan�s safety standards. The Site Safety & Health Officer serves as the on-site authority for safety, engaging with project leadership, subcontractors, and field crews to drive a proactive safety culture and reduce risk on the project.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as the SSHO for the project, meeting all qualification and performance requirements under EM 385-1-1 and client contracts.
- Develop, implement, and enforce the project-specific Safety and Health Plan in coordination with corporate safety leadership.
- Conduct daily site safety inspections; document findings and track corrective actions to closure.
- Facilitate daily pre-task planning/STARRT talks and weekly toolbox meetings with all crews.
- Ensure all Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs/JHAs) are prepared, reviewed, and updated as work progresses.
- Maintain all required safety documentation including accident/incident logs, inspection reports, permits, and training records.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions; issue corrective and preventive actions.
- Coordinate with project leadership and subcontractors to integrate safety into project planning, scheduling, and execution.
- Provide new-hire site orientations and ongoing safety training.
- Act as the on-site emergency response coordinator until relieved by higher authority.
- Track, analyze, and report safety performance metrics (TRIR, DART, leading indicators) to corporate safety and the client.
- Lead by example and promote a culture of accountability, caring, and continuous improvement in safety.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of continuous construction industry safety experience or;
- 3 years of experience + a safety/health degree, CSP, ASP, CHST, or OHST certification.
- Must demonstrate experience on projects of similar scope, size, and complexity to the contract being performed.
- Documented experience implementing and enforcing safety programs in line with OSHA and EM 385-1-1.
- OSHA 30-Hour 1926 Construction Safety
- CPR / First Aid / AED Certification (must remain current).
- EM 385-1-1 40-Hour Course (required; may be completed prior to project mobilization)
- Proficient in MS Office and Safety Assessment Data Systems.

Pay & Benefits:
The anticipated compensation range for the position is $75,000 to $105,000, is based on a full-time schedule, market and business conditions, and is commensurate on individual education, qualifications, and experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurances, flexible paid time off, paid holidays, sick time, and a matching 401K plan.
Work Conditions & Travel:
This is an on-site role. While multi-shift work is not anticipated, flexibility may be required to align with project schedules. Travel may be required up to 10% on an as-needed basis. The role involves regular sitting, with occasional standing, walking, and lifting or moving items up to 15 pounds.
