ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Sr. Hardware Engineer to support a highly reputable Industrial Automation Design and Manufacturing company in a direct role! This position is full-time and will be based out of Knoxville, TN.

Responsibilities

  • Design industrial automation equipment.

  • Ensure on-time releases of new designs and existing product changes.

  • Generate design plans for new product offerings as well as to enhance existing products based on new business objectives.

  • Design, test, troubleshoot and document product solutions.

  • Develop schematics, PCB layouts, BOMs and complete assemblies.

  • Support Supply Chain sourcing and component selections.

  • Build & test prototypes for new product development.

  • Utilize verification and validation methods to demonstrate designs meet all design requirements with particular attention given to quality and regulatory requirements.

  • Support testing via 3rd party test facilities.

  • Determine root cause for complex issues and develop practical, efficient, and permanent technical solutions.

  • Provide technical support to Test and Manufacturing departments.

  • Provide leadership and mentoring to team members.

Requirements

  • Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering and 10 + years of relevant experience with hardware design as well as testing for regulatory compliance.

  • Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.

  • Must have experience with Microprocessor based designs for mass production.

  • Must have experience with analog and board level design.

  • Must have 5+ years of experience in related engineering field with electronic design, product development, and manufacturing release experience.

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as excellent analytical problem-solving skills.

  • Must be a team leader willing to take on assignments that are not always within core competency.

  • Must have experience designing, debugging, and supporting analog/digital circuits as well as real-time embedded electronics for both microprocessor-based, FPGA/CPLD and DSP hardware platforms.

  • Must have a solid understanding of the PCB fabrication process.

  • Must be proficient in using schematic diagram development tools (e.g., ORCAD, PADS, Altium), PC board layout tools (e.g., ORCAD, PADS, Altium), and simulation tools (e.g., SPICE).

  • Must have a working knowledge of fundamental PCB layout concepts especially regarding EMC and ESD.

  • Must be skilled at using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and processor emulators/debuggers.

  • Must have proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products, such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, and PowerPoint

Desired Skills

  • Master's Degree (MS) degree.

  • Experienced in product certification activities (e.g., CE, UL, etc.).

  • Firmware development experience including HDL design.

  • Industrial automation product development, Rockwell Automation experience.

  • Experienced in designing functional safety products in accordance with IEC 61508.

  • Experienced in designing secure products in accordance with IEC 62443.

  • Proficiency in the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP).

  • Familiar with industrial automation protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, etc.

  • Experienced in leading engineering projects and teams.
