Sr. Underwriter - Professional Liability

Upland Capital Group, Inc. is an AM Best rated “A-” VIII specialty property/casualty insurer headquartered in Dallas, Texas. Through its wholly owned insurance carrier, Upland Specialty Insurance Company, the company markets, underwrites and services specialty insurance products in select markets to include excess transportation, construction casualty, excess casualty, primary general liability, excess public entity, professional liability errors and omissions as well as excess cyber liability.

As an Excess and Surplus (E&S) carrier, we face unique and interesting challenges every day. We are seeking a Senior Underwriter to join our Professional Liability FP&A team.

Primary Function:

The role of a Sr. Underwriter is to evaluate and write new and renewal policies within a designated letter of authority.  The individual will underwrite a broad range of classes of business of Miscellaneous Professional Liability.  This will be predominately wholesale driven business.  In addition to developing broker relationships, this role also serves as a mentor to other underwriters and associate underwriters. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operates within defined level of authority 
  • Ensure accuracy when comparing submissions against Underwriting guidelines 
  • Executes on production responsibilities & pricing strategy while maintaining underwriting discipline
  • Properly structure policies with appropriate terms & conditions
  • Leverage knowledge of market conditions and competitive landscape in the Underwriting process
  • Responsible for cultivating, developing, and maintaining broker relationships
  • Provides assistance when required during internal audits & reinsurance agreements 
  • Mentor peers of less tenure and assist them in their marketing strategies
  • Market to a designated region
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership 
  • Continuing education and pursuing designations
  • Team player with ability to work independently and in fast paced environment
  • Detail oriented with ability to work independently and as a group 

Experience, Education, Special Skills Required:

  • 5+ years wholesale Underwriting experience
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and negotiating skills
  • Ability to analyze data needed in making business decisions and build strong business cases
  • Ability to prioritize work based on level of urgency
  • Team player with ability to work independently and in fast paced environment
  • Detail oriented with ability to work independently and as a group
  • Ability to travel 10-20% of time to corporate office (if remote) and broker sites or required by management

Disclosures:

Pay Estimate: $130,000 - $150,000/year

Other compensation: annual incentive program
