Thalle is currently seeking an experienced and motivated candidate to fill a Superintendent position in Birmingham.

Job Title:  Superintendent

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This senior level management position oversees and is ultimately accountable for effectively coordinating the delivery of all labor staffing, means
and methods guidance, and equipment requests for field construction projects. In addition, this position is responsible for delivery of the project
within schedule, budget and quality requirements.

  • Understand and communicate internal and external labor staffing needs with the Regional Construction Manager and corporate staffing
    assistance to ensure labor resources exist to maintain the project schedule.
  • Understand and communicate internal and rental equipment needs with the Equipment Manager to ensure adequate equipment
    resources exist to maintain the project schedule.
  • Provide direction to all field staff to achieve operations that effectively and efficiently utilize the project resources in accordance with
    the project schedule.
  • As a member of the Operations Team, participate in the management of daily operational issues, including long-term planning and
    resource coordination, identifying and improving procedures, project staffing and ongoing project support.
  • Plan for and execute weekly field meetings to update field staff on current projects, bids, staffing and equipment moves
  • Ensure company policies and operational procedures are understood, implemented consistently and adhered to.
  • Through the Operations Team, coordinate with Corporate Safety Department to ensure all project safety needs are met and to assist in
    the adherence to all Company safety policies.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • 15 years minimum heavy highway experience preferably with Department of Transportation.
  • Able to read and understand project specifications, special provisions and plans
  • Specialize in understanding and implementation of maintaining traffic through multiple phases of highway construction
  • Able to understand and implement Primavera P6 project schedules
  • Able to produce and deliver short and long-term plans and look ahead schedules
  • Able to conduct monthly progress meetings
  • Ability to develop and motivate a team to produce successful results.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with fine grading, placement of aggregate base course, traffic control implementation and stabilization and closeout of surrounding site.
  • Able to manage and schedule subcontractors performing asphalt paving, bridge construction, concrete placement, striping, signage, lighting, seeding and other scopes of work associated with roadway construction.
  • Ability to acclimate and manage an existing team currently working on the project.
  • Ability to effectively mentor professional development of field management.
  • Self-starter capable of improving operations processes.
  • Excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Sound judgment

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.

  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to talk, listen, and communicate clearly in person and over the phone.
