We are seeking an experienced Surveying Crew Chief to lead daily field surveying and construction staking operations in support of residential, commercial, and municipal projects.
Compensation: $30-40/hour depending on experience
Location: West Valley City, UT
FLSA Exemption: Non-Exempt
Schedule: Hours may vary based on project needs
Lead daily field surveying and construction staking activities as directed by the Survey Coordinator.
Train, direct, and oversee the work of the Rodman/Survey Technician.
Maintain strong client communication, including daily check-in/check-out to confirm progress and expectations.
Keep detailed daily field notes, records of work performed, and time logs for both yourself and the rodman.
Ensure all field equipment, vehicles, and tools are kept clean, organized, and in proper working condition.
Review assigned work orders to ensure tasks are completed accurately, on-time, and in alignment with client requirements and CMT standards.
Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and strong working relationships with clients, coworkers, and project partners.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to read, understand, and execute written instructions, procedures, and basic calculations.
Minimum 2 years of field experience in surveying and/or construction staking.
Strong understanding of survey methods, field practices, and survey equipment operation.
Reliable transportation and consistent punctuality.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Ability to complete CMT's training and evaluation period (30–90 days depending on prior experience).
Experience leading field crews or training junior survey staff.
Strong client-facing communication skills and professionalism.
Familiarity with GPS, robotic total stations, and digital data collection systems.
