Mesa seeks a Transmission Line Engineer with the following skills, knowledge and abilities:

- Possess working knowledge of computers and software such as AutoCAD, Microstation, Microsoft Office Suite, and software used for specific technical applications within the department.
- Experience in PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole. Experience in GIS and WMS systems is preferred.
- Possess willingness to develop, promote and comply with Mesa safety requirements.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Structural or Civil Engineering.
- A minimum of 2 years progressively responsible experience in Transmission line design experience is required.
- This is to include field experience related to the construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting of overhead 34 kV-500 kV transmission lines.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of technical plans, drawings, and models.
- Familiarity with design codes and standards such as NESC, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318.
- Proficiency with Power Line and Structure modeling for computer aided and design development. PLS-CADD and associated modules (POLE, TOWER), Excel, MFAD or Lpile, NESC.
- Knowledge in ACI, ASCE Pole manual, AISC Steel manual preferred, but not required
- Familiarity with industry codes standards and practices for electric utility practice.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works under the direction of Principal Engineers and Engineering, Project or Program Managers.
- Developing HV/EHV transmission line design parameters. Preliminary design, budgetary estimating, and scheduling.
- Detailed design, estimating, and scheduling.
- Engineering calculations to assure safety and performance of equipment and systems.
- Equipment specification, proposal evaluation and requisitioning.
- Interdisciplinary interface for constructability and conformance to project requirements.
- Coordinating design engineering and equipment delivery to meet construction schedules.
- Checking completed job for quality, adequacy of design, and documentation.
- Prepare reports and feasibility studies for submission to Management.
- Be proficient with the Company's design, construction, QA/QC, and safety standards and the Company document control system.
- Be proficient applying Standards, both National and Local. (For example, ANSI/IEEE, National Electric Safety Code, ASTM, AIC, etc.)
- Proficiency with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE and SAG10.
- ROW, LIDAR, and Survey data intaking and application to design.
- Studies: Thermal, Ampacity/Electrical load, Electrical and Physical characteristics, Ground-wire, Aeolian Vibration, Galloping, Insulator requirements – basing Overvoltage, Crest factors, switching surge, air environment impact and factor of safety.
- Preparing transmission studies and reports.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Micro-station.
- Solid communication and coordination skills with graphics and engineering.
- May be required to travel to support work. Valid and active Driver’s license across USA is required.
- Other duties as required.
- On a task basis, is responsible for preparation and completion of discipline engineering designs and supporting documentation such as design criteria, calculations, drawings and specifications.
- Must have basic understanding of all drawing types required for a project, understanding their purpose, inter-relationship with other sets of deliverables, method of generation, and cost to produce.
- Assists in definition of project objectives, preparation of design estimates, and definition of project requirements and design approaches for routine projects.
- Exercises limited judgment in the independent evaluation selection, and adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- Performs technical and coordination checking/ review of deliverables and other project documents. Ensures deliverables comply with Business Unit procedures and meet applicable design requirements.
- Capable of preparing/checking calculations using engineering formulas and skills or application specific software as required.
- Assists in resolution of construction issues, supporting design staff to resolve problems and concerns in a timely manner.
