Position Overview

As a Transmission Line Estimator – Overhead, you will develop accurate, competitive estimates for high‑voltage overhead transmission line construction projects, including new builds, rebuilds, and system upgrades.

You will evaluate bid documents, construction drawings, and specifications to ensure full scope capture across key transmission components, including:

  • Structure installation (steel, lattice, monopole, wood pole)
  • Conductor and OPGW stringing
  • Foundations (drilled pier, direct embed, anchor systems)
  • Access roads and right‑of‑way (ROW) preparation
  • Material logistics and equipment planning

This role partners closely with Project Managers, engineers, field leadership, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure bids are complete, accurate, and aligned with execution strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze bid specifications, transmission line drawings, and contract documents
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for labor, materials, and equipment
  • Develop pricing for structure erection, conductor installation, foundations, and ROW work
  • Solicit, evaluate, and follow up on subcontractor and vendor quotes
  • Identify constructability challenges, access constraints, and project risks
  • Collaborate with Project Management and Operations teams to align estimates with field execution plans
  • Prepare clear, organized estimate documentation and bid packages
  • Track bid progress, results, and support project turnover to execution teams

What It Takes

  • 5+ years of estimating, project management, or field experience in transmission, utility, or electrical construction—or equivalent experience
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
  • Experience or exposure to overhead transmission line construction methods
  • Ability to review and interpret construction drawings, plan & profile sheets, and specifications
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and numerical skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for site visits, pre‑bid meetings, and bid reviews

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience estimating high‑voltage transmission projects (69kV–500kV+)
  • Familiarity with structure types, conductor systems, and foundation designs
  • Understanding of right‑of‑way (ROW), access challenges, and environmental considerations
  • Experience with estimating software (e.g., HCSS, InEight, or similar)
  • Background working with utilities, co‑ops, or EPC contractors
