Big-D has an opportunity for a Yard Associate to join our team of construction professionals based in North Salt Lake City, UT.


Experience/Training:



  • A High School Diploma or GED is preferred

  • 1-3 Warehouse/yard-based physical labor required

  • Construction experience preferred


Critical Skills:



  • Solid and thorough understanding of various tools and components of systems

  • Basic OSHA and similar training are necessary; training will be provided. 

  • Ability to understand and capture safety concerns and issues for team members.

  • Consistently produces accurate work and has excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to follow direction, implement changes, and monitor material and equipment usage.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.

  • Work well in a team environment

  • Able to be resourceful and take initiative

  • Maintains a friendly and courteous attitude, even under stressful situations

  • High level of ethics and confidentiality

  • Industry knowledge

  • Able to resolve problems and discrepancies efficiently

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Forklift certification required, Big-D can provide training

  • Medcard/regulated driver, Big-D can provide training




      Duties, Responsibilities and Expectations: (other duties may be assigned to meet business needs)



      • Confer with supervisor to maintain a 5S-based space management in the yard

      • Maintain yard standards for any necessary inventory counts (cycle, spot, or monthly reconciliation processes)

      • Perform yard counting techniques/protocols in a timely manner

      • Assist supervisor in continuous improvement effort.

      • Assist Drivers in picking/loading orders via computer systems

      • Assist drivers in loading and unloading for shipment pick-ups and deliveries

      • Interact with jobsite superintendents and supervisor to get them the right equipment/tool, at the right place, at the right time

      • Receive shipments and make sure goods have remained safe after transport, and ensure accuracy of items returned (count what actually returns vs what is supposed to return)

      • Document all inventory transfers

      • Operate forklifts or order section machines to transport parts in and about warehouses

      • Ensure yard is always properly maintained and kept clean by following set of instructions

        While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and/or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl. The employee must also lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. The employee may be required to lift heavy objects in awkward positions that require flexible range of motion. Specific vision abilities include close vision and peripheral vision. The employee is also required to frequently inspect the project and will be exposed to ongoing construction and various weather conditions, including rain, sleet, snow, wind, and heat. The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud. The employee is also required to frequently walk on uneven surfaces. Safety requirements necessitate no language barrier exist between employees and supervisors.


        Employee will not be provided access to a company vehicle unless permitted by direct superior.
