Summary

 

Responsibility to include estimating construction projects, follow up on project leads, company marketing and assist in negotiating projects.  Maintain good quality management in the bidding process by securing bidders for each bid package who are qualified, competitive, interested in the work and capable of doing the work within the project guidelines and time requirement.  Maintain good working relationship with subcontractors and suppliers and make sure appropriate subs and suppliers are contacted for project bids. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities – 90% Estimating 10% Project Development

Estimating Duties 

  • Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for construction projects
  • Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documents to determine the scope of work and materials required
  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, and subcontractors to gather necessary information for estimating purposes
  • Utilize construction estimating software such as Bluebeam, Excel, and Sage Estimating (Timberline), to create comprehensive estimates
  • Evaluate labor, material, and equipment costs to determine project expenses
  • Identify potential cost-saving measures and value engineering opportunities
  • Present estimates to clients and negotiate contract terms
  • Maintain accurate records of estimates, change orders, and project documentation

 

Project Development Duties

  • Find leads on upcoming projects and follow up with owners and or architects.
  • Prepare company portfolios to be sent to potential clients.
  • Assist with updating project and personnel files.
  • Assist in market research.
  • Develop preliminary drawings, floor plans, site plans and elevation for client presentations.

 

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of personal computers and software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Project, Windows NT, AutoCAD, Timberline, Primavera Expedition and SureTrak.
  • Knowledge of construction materials and methods.
  • Ability to read and understand construction blueprints and specifications.
  • Ability to produce accurate estimates from preliminary plans and sketches.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with owners, clients, architects, subcontractors, and co-workers.
  • Knowledge of modern business communications, including styles and forms of letters, memoranda, minutes, proposals, and reports.
  • Thorough knowledge of Timberline Estimating software.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision.
  • Ability to draw basic floor plans, site plans and elevation from AutoCAD.

Credentials and Experience

  • Proven experience in construction estimating or related field
  • Strong knowledge of construction management principles and practices
  • Familiarity with construction industry standards, codes, and regulations
  • Proficiency in using estimating software such as Bluebeam
  • Excellent mathematical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to read and interpret project plans, specifications, and other technical documents
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
