Position Overview

Staxmatic is seeking an experienced Commercial Construction Project Manager (MEP) with a strong background in mechanical and plumbing construction to lead projects from pre-construction through closeout. Projects include K–12 schools, healthcare and medical facilities, higher education campuses, data centers, and large commercial buildings throughout Texas.

This role is responsible for full project execution and financial performance, including pre-construction planning, budgeting, cost control, scheduling, procurement, field coordination, contract administration, and project closeout. The Project Manager maintains full ownership of the mechanical and plumbing scope, overseeing HVAC systems, piping, plumbing systems, subcontractors, vendors, and internal field teams.

The Project Manager works closely with Superintendents, Mechanical Foremen, Plumbing Foremen, subcontractors, and General Contractors to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contract, quality, and safety requirements. This position is ideal for a PM with strong commercial MEP expertise who understands both field operations and project financial management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage commercial mechanical and plumbing construction projects through all phases, from pre-construction planning to project closeout
  • Maintain full responsibility for mechanical and plumbing scope, including HVAC systems, piping, and plumbing installations
  • Develop, manage, and control project budgets, including job cost tracking, forecasting, and change order management
  • Create, maintain, and update project schedules in coordination with Superintendents and field leadership
  • Lead coordination with Mechanical and Plumbing Foremen, subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and General Contractors
  • Monitor field progress, manpower, productivity, and labor utilization to ensure project milestones are achieved
  • Review, track, and manage RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, specifications, and contract documents
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards, company safety policies, quality requirements, and project specifications
  • Identify and mitigate project risks, constructability issues, schedule impacts, and scope conflicts
  • Drive timely resolution of issues through coordination with internal teams and external partners
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, reporting, billing support, and closeout materials
  • Support client communication, progress updates, and alignment with contractual expectations


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of construction project management experience in commercial Mechanical and/or Plumbing (MEP) construction
  • Demonstrated experience managing commercial mechanical and plumbing projects (non-residential)
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems, plumbing systems, piping, and construction sequencing
  • Proven ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced commercial construction environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
  • Experience with construction management software such as MS Project, Procore, Bluebeam, or similar platforms
  • Strong understanding of cost control, forecasting, and project financial reporting

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Combination of office and active construction jobsite environments
  • Ability to walk job sites, climb ladders, and navigate uneven terrain
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs as required
  • Use of PPE required while on job sites
  • Ability to work extended hours as project needs required
