Job Description:

The Senior Estimator is responsible for preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates and budgets for commercial construction projects. This role plays a key part in the preconstruction phase, working closely with clients, architects, subcontractors, and internal project teams to ensure competitive and complete project bids. The Senior Estimator brings deep industry knowledge, technical expertise, and strong analytical skills to support the company’s pursuit of profitable and successful projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and manage full-cycle estimates for commercial construction projects including ground-up builds, interior renovations, and tenant improvements.
  • Analyze construction documents (drawings, specifications, and addenda) to develop scope of work and cost estimates.
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs and pricing for all divisions of work using historical data, subcontractor input, and estimating software.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and scope subcontractor and vendor bids to ensure complete and competitive coverage.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities, constructability issues, and project risks during the estimating process.
  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and owners to clarify project scope and align budgets with client goals.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and bid reviews.
  • Maintain and develop strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and industry partners.
  • Assist in the development and updating of historical cost data and unit pricing databases.
  • Work closely with the Chief Estimator to develop bid strategies and ensure consistency across all estimating activities.
  • Contribute to value engineering, design-build proposals, and alternative delivery methods as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field (preferred).
  • 5+ years of commercial construction estimating experience with a general contractor.
  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Sage Estimating, ProEst, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff).
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods, materials, building systems, and code requirements.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple (3-4) projects simultaneously
  • Ability to put together a full estimate based on take-offs for any commercial construction project
  • Ability to review other estimators’ bids
  • Experience estimating a wide variety of commercial project types such as office, retail, healthcare, hospitality, education, or industrial (a plus).
