Job Summary:
To perform skilled concrete finishing techniques, primarily on flat surface cement projects, including tilt-up panels, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, footings, retaining walls, and slab on grade. Responsibility extends to participation in operations preliminary to concrete finishing and labor work.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
• Spread, level, and smooth concrete, using shovel and hand tools.
• Mold expansion joints and edges using edging tools.
• Produce a concrete surface, using a broom.
• Operate the power vibrator to consolidate concrete.
• Skilled cement finishing is performed according to accepted standards and practices and is inspected in progress and upon completion by a foreman.
• Apply hardening, sealing, and curing compounds to concrete as required.
• Waterproof or restore concrete surfaces, using appropriate compounds.
• Must perform general laborer duties as needed.
• Regular attendance is required according to company policy to ensure the crew can operate at the normal efficiency level.
• Adheres to procedures, regulations, and guidelines while minimizing errors and safety risks.
• Follow instructions and comprehend construction needs.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Ability to finish tilt wall panels, slabs on grade, grinding, rubbing, sawing and cutting concrete.
• Knowledge of concrete tools, techniques, and practices.
• Able to work a flexible schedule with last-minute schedule, location, and time of shift changes. Overtime work as needed.
• Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
Education and Experience:
• High School or equivalent (preferred).
• Minimum one (1) year of experience in the construction industry.
Physical Requirements:
• Frequent walking on uneven surfaces, including ground in varying weather conditions.
• Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements.
• May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.
• Standing and performing repetitive work that includes pushing, pulling, lifting (80+ lbs.), twisting, sitting, squatting for 8 hours or more.
• Kneel, bend, and stoop repeatedly for long periods or continually throughout the shift.
• Regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
• Exposure to outdoor environment with machinery/equipment in the surrounding area.
• Able to wear personal protective equipment is required, including but not limited to steel-toe shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, vest, etc.
