Job Summary:

The construction fleet dispatcher is responsible for coordinating the movement of construction vehicles and equipment by assigning drivers to specific job sites, managing schedules, monitoring vehicle locations, ensuring compliance with regulations, and communicating effectively with drivers, project managers, and clients to optimize efficiency and timely delivery of construction materials and crews to project sites.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Scheduling and Dispatching:

  • Assign drivers and construction equipment to various job sites based on project needs, availability, and driver qualifications.
  • Create daily work schedules considering project deadlines, traffic conditions, and weather forecasts.
  • Monitor driver schedules and adjust routes as needed to maintain efficiency.
  • Coordinate equipment delivery and pick-up times with project managers.

Communication and Coordination:

  • Maintain open communication with drivers regarding job site details, route updates, and any changes in project requirements.
  • Regularly contact project managers to receive updates on project needs and address any concerns.
  • Relay information to clients regarding delivery times and potential delays.

Fleet Management:

  • Track vehicle locations using GPS technology to monitor progress and identify potential issues.
  • Monitor vehicle maintenance schedules and ensure timely servicing.
  • Coordinate repairs and maintenance with service providers when necessary.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure drivers adhere to all relevant safety regulations and company policies.
  • Monitor driver hours of service to prevent fatigue and ensure compliance with DOT regulations.
  • Address any safety concerns raised by drivers or project managers.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Maintain detailed records of driver assignments, equipment usage, delivery times, and project updates.
  • Generate reports on fleet performance, including efficiency metrics and cost analysis.

Required Skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with drivers, project managers, and clients.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to manage complex schedules and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing situations and make informed decisions under pressure.
  • Knowledge of construction industry practices, safety regulations, and DOT compliance guidelines.
  • Proficiency with dispatching software and GPS tracking systems.
