JOB SUMMARY
Under limited supervision, the Construction Inspector is responsible for the inspection of utility and site construction associated with development projects to ensure the safety, economy and compliance of said projects through plans, specification, various codes, and departmental policies; job tasks may include inspection of public and/or private development construction and public right of way use permits; coordination with other City departments concerning construction related matters; and providing information to the public concerning engineering and construction related issues.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Associate's Degree in Engineering, or related field,
At least two (2) years of experience working in land development for a municipality or consulting engineer;
or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certifications and Licenses
TCEQ Class “C” Water Distribution Operator, Class II Wastewater Collection Operator certification; OR ability to obtain within one year of employment.
Valid Driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
Knowledge: Construction methods and standards; utility ordinances; Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regulations for stormwater and water and wastewater systems; applicable laws, ordinances, specifications, regulations, and functions pertaining to engineering issues.
Skill/Ability: Operate a computer and mobile device using standard word processing and spreadsheet software; establish and maintain effective working relationships with local and state government officials and the general public; coordinate and interact with other departments; demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communication; gather, compile, and analyze a variety of data and make sound decisions regarding that data as it applies to providing services; and read and interpret information from construction plans and maps.
