Responsibilities:
The Construction Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety programs to ensure a safe working environment for employees, subcontractors, and clients on construction job sites. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations while promoting a culture of safety throughout the organization.
Safety Program Management
- Administer and maintain company safety programs in compliance with OSHA construction standards
- Conduct routine jobsite safety inspections and audits
- Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
- Maintain OSHA recordkeeping (300, 300A, and 301 logs)
- Coordinate safety orientation and training for new hires and subcontractors
- Assist project teams with Job Hazard Analysis (JHA/JSA) development
- Track employee certifications and training records
- Support implementation of fall protection, confined space, excavation, and lockout/tagout programs
- Maintain safety documentation, reports, and regulatory records
- Assist in preparing documentation for insurance audits and compliance reviews
- Promote a positive safety culture across all company projects
Job Site Safety Oversight
- Conduct routine safety inspections and audits of construction job sites.
- Identify hazards and implement corrective actions to mitigate risk.
- Work closely with project managers and superintendents to ensure safe work practices.
Training & Education
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and subcontractors.
- Conduct safety orientations for new hires and job site personnel.
- Ensure employees maintain required certifications and safety training.
Incident Management
- Investigate accidents, injuries, and near-miss incidents.
- Prepare incident reports and recommend corrective actions.
- Track safety metrics and maintain OSHA logs and documentation.
Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, local, and state safety regulations.
- Manage safety documentation, permits, and reporting requirements.
- Support safety audits from clients, regulatory agencies, and insurance providers.
Qualifications:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
Experience
- 3+ years of construction safety experience, preferably in mechanical, plumbing, or HVAC construction
- Strong knowledge of OSHA construction standards
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to jobsites in the Houston area
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety reporting software
- Ability to pass criminal background check and drug screening
Certifications (Preferred)
- CSP – Certified Safety Professional
- CHST – Construction Health & Safety Technician
- OSHA 30 or OSHA 500
- SMS – Safety Management Specialist
- STSC – Safety Trained Supervisor Construction
- ASC – Advanced Safety Certificate
- First Aid / CPR Certification
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of OSHA safety regulations
- Experience conducting safety audits and incident investigations
- Ability to lead safety training and toolbox talks
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Strong problem-solving and risk management abilities
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk construction job sites for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and navigate active construction environments.
