Construction Staff Accountant

Summary

The Construction Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial aspects of multiple construction projects, ensuring accurate setup, billing, cost tracking, and reporting. This role collaborates with project managers and other team members to provide essential financial data and maintain compliance with company standards.

Job Responsibilities (responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following):

  • Set up new construction projects in the accounting system
  • Prepare and process project billings (AIA and progress billings)
  • Manage accounts receivable for assigned projects
  • Prepare and process subcontracts and monitor contract compliance
  • Process and track owner and subcontractor change orders
  • Prepare monthly adjusting journal entries
  • Assist with Work-In-Progress (WIP) reporting
  • Monitor project budgets and track costs
  • Support month-end and year-end accounting close processes
  • Serve as liaison between project teams and accounting/finance departments
  • Prepare and submit regular project financial reports for management
  • Maintain compliance with internal controls, company policies, and contract requirements
  • Maintain a high degree of integrity and confidentiality regarding financial data

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (recent graduates encouraged to apply)
  • 0–5 years of accounting experience (construction industry experience is a plus)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/project management software (e.g., Viewpoint, Sage, Procore, or similar)
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare accurate reports
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate across teams

Physical Requirements

The Construction Staff Accountant’s physical condition must be sufficient for the consistent and successful completion of the responsibilities defined for this position. This position frequently requires sitting, using hands, and working on a computer for extended periods; occasional standing, walking, or reaching may also be necessary.
